the Chronic is argubly the best produced album ever... the way the songs flow into eachother is seemless.... Snoop, Kurupt, Rage, and Rbx were Beast at spittin.... we never heard rapping like that over such Westcoast sounding production.... and the mixing of this album raised the bar for sound quality in rap music

the Chronic changed the way n1ggaz in the hood lived and dressed

Lyrically yeah.

But the Chronic has universal appeal. I love Illmatic, and if I had to define hip hop, that would be the album, but if I had to get people into hip hop I would def play The Chronic

From a production and engineering standpoint I agree. Let me ride might still be my all time fav drums and possibly mix to this day. But as mentioned, lyrically it's very one sided in favor of illmatic. The other thing is the way nas revolutionized the way albums were produced in the sense that prior to illmatic, albums were usually produced by one main producer who was part of the group. Illmatic was the first album to have an all star lineup of different producers crafting the sound, which would become the model following it's release.

2nd half of the chronic is wack. Yeah i said it. Dre stopped rapping half way through and finished it off with one great track at the end.
