Also, even if you don't like them, consider these are movies with $200 million dollar budgets that get all the hype and fan fare. We don't get those, except there's something with Will Smith and his son coming out soon, so hopefully that's good.

I think we should concentrate on getting more black people into those roles as opposed to making $200 million dollar "black movies" cause if you really think about it those are "white" movies either. The casts are predominately white, but the stories have nothing to do with white people or white culture. They're about aliens and space and explosions and shyt. By making a "black" movie you purposely exclude most of the population. It's a hard sell to get anyone to invest 200 million dollars in anything that will only be marketed to a very small portion of the population.

i've only watched like a couple of dude films(neither of which i saw in whole) and based on that limited sample didn't see anything that outrigt offended me as a blackman..tp movies aint really my prefrence but they they don't as an negative an representation of afro americans as those hood crime movies that glamorzed criminality from the early 90s to late 90s which are considered classics by many or even most mainstream rap for that matter.

Like, what is the big damn deal about this nikka where the hate gets to be on that level? Y'all hate him that much just because he's making money from subpar movies? I see that he catches more ether about being on the DL and dressing up like a woman, than he does for his movies

I've seen a few episodes of his TV shows and clips from two of his movies, and I realized that kind of shyt wasn't for me (although House of Payne, as bad a show as it was, did get a few laughs outta me). I think his shyt is wack, but I ain't about to hate on him for finding an audience and sticking to his lane. It ain't THAT serious

Right, but if you cast black people in those roles then the perception of it becomes a "black movie". So on the one hand I understand them casting mostly whites in those roles to appeal to the vast majority of movie goers, but we still can't be content with this pidgeon holing we're under in hollywood.

I think people's biggest "issue" is that he perpetuates negative stereotypes in the black community through his films. People want to see blacks in positions of leadership and influence in film, not as baby mothers, dead beat fathers or crack heads. Men playing women is another issue too and that's totally understandable but dude is doing his thing so it's hard for me to hate on him.

I disagree. I think that's a misconception that allot of Hollywood execs make. But the movies that do have black actors in those prominent rolls still do pretty well. What we need to do is stop going to see the batmans, ironmans, Prometheus, etc if black people are underrepresented in them.

I don't think Tyler perry movies are good at all. But when I hear people dising his movies while applauding movies that have absolutely no black presence at all, I have to speak up about it. Tyler perry is not the cause of black people's problems in Hollywood.

Dude quoted in the OP's point was that he doesn't appreciate Tyler Perry's movies because they depict (i'll use this term begrudgingly) "upwardly mobile" black people as if they go into morale decline the further "up" they go...if people have beef with that, I can understand - and I think that can open up some good convo that I feel needs to be had...

...But if you mad at the nicca because he's the only one who can make "black movies" that will be seen and he don't make the kind of movies you like...you can get your money up like he did by establishing a following for your own horsechit, get your own company, write your own movies, or else shut the hell up.
