Dare I say, Lue is overrated as a head coach? :hubie:

It's a glass half empty/half full thing. Take the 2021 WCFs run:

Mid coaching: Round 1 he blew the first 2 home games (down 0-2) and was eventually down 3-2 to the Mavs. Kawhi goes super sayian in game 6 (45pts) and 7. Choke job avoided, but that was more star player willing the team than "good" coaching.

Great coaching:
Round 2 vs Utah, tied 2-2, and LAC beats Utah the final 2 games with no Kawhi. Biggest adjustment is he went small putting Terrence Mann at the 5 who scored 39 vs Rudy in game 6. Mann still living off that game. Rudy still stigmatized off that game.

On one hand, Lue has had guys like Batum and Hartenstein credit him with rejuvenating/saving their careers. Otoh, he's a bit too loyal to shyt players and is at a loss for in-game adjustments if "go small" doesn't work.

Otoh again, his team consists of glass canon stars that always shatter come playoff time, so what really is the expectation

Lue and Kidd are a clear testament of give a breh an opportunity with no formal experience and he will eventually get better at the job..

Lots of coaches have improved after initial disappointments. '98 Popovich thought that a front court of Will Perdue, David Robinson, and Tim Duncan would win basketball games. '11 Spolstra tried to combat a zone with lineups where Bron was the best 3pt shooter on the court.

There wasn't an upgrade available and there's no salary cap for coaches.

Time to see what happens with Russ and PG.
That little "Clipps are interested in CP3 or Lowery" leak might be from the front office hoping that Russ opts out. There's no way he's playing over Bones next season and without question he's not down for some DNP's or bottom barrel spot minutes. I think its 70% chance that PG is resigning. Ballmer doesn't want him to walk and we get nothing in return.

He's earned that.

Blowing the 3-1 lead vs. Denver in the Bubble is a pretty bad moment for Kawhi, Paul, and himself.
Outside of that, I can't blame him for their shortcomings. Kawhi is always hurt when they need him.

They can't make any type of noise without Kawhi. PG and role players isn't doing it.
Coaching situation is much better than their roster construction at the moment.
