With regard to America, if you look deeper into the issues you'll see that it's not government as a whole that's "bad", but it's mainly the private interests behind them that are using the government for their own interests.

Even guys like Adam Smith were well aware of this dynamic and condemned it.

Absolutely, govt. is even real(dont ask). Its people that must be restrained, and kept form amassing too much power. Power corrupts absolutely.

I thought you meant a situation with no government regulation at all.

In that case we fundamentally agree. But I think in a lot of ways this private tyranny that's been created is more oppressive than any state tyranny we've ever had.
