sorry OP but you ran into some real TV snobs up in here...good luck lol

fwiw your choices are nowhere near as bad as they are making it seem

in a nutshell if you’ve been exposed to super high-end TVs then ya these would be a “letdown”...but if these models you selected are an upgrade from what you have then you’ll be more than satisfied and for quite some time...ultimately you have to DYOR and that includes going to the store and looking @ both display models if possible

*edit*

also which 55” TV do you currently have?

Breh, I knew I would get some of that, and that's fine. You think I take ANYTHING @PS4's struggling ass has to say about money seriously? :russ: I don't give a shyt about flexing money on an online forum full of people I don't know; I'm buying a $1300 TV cash without any financial repercussions and am good with that.

I have a Sharp 55" 1080p, I couldn't tell you the model. I'm seriously just not into TVs like that. Mid-range models are fine to me. I'll grab an OLED someday when they're more affordable.

in that case...whichever you decide you will 1000% be more than satisfied w/ your purchase...it took me a while to foray into 4k TVs from 1080...made the leap about 2 years ago...wasn’t top of the line...wasn’t bottom of the barrel either and I’m still good w/ my purchase...these TVs you’re looking @ are by absolutely no means “bottom of the barrel” TVs...you’ll enjoy either one...I’m just more of a “brand whore” for samsung or LG

Glad you said it because Brokey would have deflected his poverty on me :hhh:

Seriously tho, you know what is testing higher than the tcl right now? The newest hisense (i think it's roku too)

Yes, the brand we've all made fun of is leading the charge. Hi-sense H9F is the model. I seen a YouTube video on best TVs for fall 2019 and that was the winner. You're welcome :francis:
The hell you want a hisense for when you can kill the game right now with some CRT big booty piff? :mjlit:

You can get a better TV if you go down in screen size or if you bump up the budget to $2000. If you're getting a Samsung accept nothing less than a Q7 QLED. As for TCL all they make are budget sets. They don't even make a 120hz panel TV or a true 10 bit one.

I wouldn't wanna buy either of the ones you listed but if I had to pick one I'd go TCL. It has more features even if the Samsung has the 120 hz panel.

TVs work like this. If you aren't within 2 models of the flagship you're probably getting junk. The Samsung flagship is Q9 then there's Q8 and Q7. Once you go Q6 or below you're getting an inferior panel. Those are the TVs they sell to people who have a set price and will only spend that much quality be damned.

But see this is the thing. Some people are upgrading from a black Friday 2009 TV so a junk TV from 2019 is going to look much better to them.

Fellow Rec Roomers,

I'm moving the current 55-inch HDTV I have in my living room to the office, replacing it with an XL 75-inch model. I've whittled my choices down the TCL Roku 6 series and the Samsung 4K 8 series. They're both $1,300..and really, that's the ceiling of my budget, I wouldn't really want to go beyond that for this TV (I'm broke, 1 star, neg, dap/undap).

I'm not a TV expert like some of the cats on here...Is TCL matching or exceeding Sammy's image quality? I've heard it has a fantastic UI. Do either suffer from "soap opera" effect and can I mitigate it? Let me know what ya'll think.

rtings is a excellent site.
rtings has the TCL 6 series rated higher than the RU8000 Samsung you posted.

Me personally you should have jumped on the Vizio PX, that or wait for the price cut on the TCL 8 series.

A TV snob would settle for nothing less than the flagship model. He's walking into the store with the budget for a top end 55 inch TV and wants a 75 inch one. There's really no point in getting a $1300 75 inch set. I'd just as well go scoop up an $800 one from Walmart, a Vizio, and roll with that. Even if you put an extended warranty on it then it's still coming out less than $1300. Hell grab a Sceptre or an Element and save even more.

$1300 is too much money to spend on a mediocre set. You can get one for $700-$800.

From what I'm reading, neither of these sets are mediocre though. They review well in RTings and CNET.

I don’t know of any 75” vizio for $800 anywhere unless it’s refurbished and you admonish him about buying a “mediocre” set but then suggest he buys a sceptre or an element TV just for the sake of buying the most inexpensive 75” television as if they are completely comparable in quality to what he’s looking @ lol

You're not getting a quality TV that big for 1300. Best Buy is also not a good place to shop of you're seruous. Limited models, bad prices, unless you're willing to haggle at Magnolia, or get a price match (they get a lot of "special" model made juat for retail to create a technicality to not price match). Anything you get will likely be bargain basement with bad PQ. Join AVS Forum and learn what suits your requirements best. You should know the real answer though:birdman:

Panasonic have the best OLED TVs. But they don't sell them in the US. Yet in the EU we don't get the FALD TCLs.

At the price point get a TCL 6series for the best bang for your buck.

If you aren't overly concerned about picture quality there are plenty of cheaper options. You just have to see it in person.

What's clear is most people don't know fukk about shyt. We kinda in the future people, experts for a living break down each new TV. The answers are easily found with just the slightest amount of effort.

Those answers don't match the majority of answers in this thread, and the top budget TVs today are not the same brands as they were just a few years ago.
