I remember watching some of his battles years ago. Checked out a few episodes of his podcast too.

Because streaming services has increased the price of TV actor/actresses salaries to the point where they need it to be a hit to justify costs.

It’s also why you have and will be seeing more reality TV shows as they are cheaper to make and can get you the same ratings as scripted television. There’s also a looming writer’s strike on the horizon.
Everything can’t be a hit, and reality tv is not the answer. No matter how popular some shows are everyone isn’t watching reality tv. Network tv execs don’t have a clue how to adapt and those channels that think reality tv is going to save them are going to irrelevant going forward

this is why I don’t get into shows until they get multiple seasons. There is nothing I can do to stop it from being canceled after one season.

It’s all about maintaining cost and profits. Why go the scripted route and have to pay writers and actors when you can can reality TV at a fraction of a cost. MTV and Sci-Fi tried the scripted TV route and look what happened

A show can moderate hit, but if production costs are too high then it’s not worth keeping around. That’s why the CW films in Vancouver to keep cost down and they kept Dynasty even with terrible ratings as it’s very valuable overseas. With this COVID-19 situation and budgets being decimated, reality TV is the route to go for the time being for a lot of TV networks.

I wonder if the Rona shutdown will bring a wave of animated dramas. Apparently production of animated shows can keep going since the work can be done from home.

A lot of changes are going to end up happening because of the Rona.

Network budgets are going to be decimated, actors will more than likely have to take a paycut to help keep the show going. A lot of characters won’t be back to finish seasons or will end up getting written off as the season goes on. Other shows that would have been/are cancelled will end up getting renewed as the sets are still set up and there likely won’t be time to shoot pilots for the upcoming season.

You’ll also likely see shorter television seasons for a while to help keep cost down.

Sci fi had good shows but they always get canceled without having the chance to get any closure. It’s annoying. I personally hate reality tv but I cut the cord over 5 years ago so who cares what I think
