I meant to post this back on December 6th:

The Mandalorian is the most popular show on Disney+ — and also the biggest television series overall right now. A big part of that is Baby Yoda. He’s cute, charming, and makes us want to watch week-after-week. He’s also a way for Disney to sell merchandise and capitalize on a character that immediately makes us go, “I want it.”

That was because baby yoda is cute. The witcher does not have that.
It's not just about what it does and doesn't have, it's how long it stays in the mind of viewers and retains a hold of the zeitgeist.

2019 in TV has been defined by shows (good or bad doesn't matter, just talking about presence) by shows with a traditional schedule.

What about shows like Power, though? It doesn't have that and it was arguably written pretty poorly this season, but I've seen it consistently mentioned on social media.

I dont watch power.
But it looks like they are using soap opera tactics with this who shot JR storyline.

You're missing the point. Baby Yoda kept people interested, for eight weeks. It doesn't matter what The Witcher does or doesn't have, it's only going to be a factor for a weekend, a week tops.

Stranger Things is one of the cutest shows out there and struggles to stay relevant for more than a week or two.

The same-day season was a revelation for Netflix near the start of this decade but as it came to a close, the power of weekly format flexed and has remained king. At this point Netflix is selling itself short with its release format. Not only did it dominate the landscape for a long time, it got at least one, and will get a lot of 2nd renewals out of people who didn't catch the finale before their subscription expired. Ditto GoT early this year for HBO.
