I think a lot of time we focus on these rich kids who get into school because of connections, but neglect that there are many rich kids who actually benefited from getting great private educations and tutors. I got to school with a lot of these types of kids. It makes it easier that they don't have to worry about finances, but a lot of them get scholarships anyway. They know their shyt basically. I personally know a few people who wouldn't have to work/study a day in their life but something motivates them to get a degrees, and not some bullshyt degree either. But it probably has to do with my current major and the people it attracts.

no there are not a relic, stop spreading hippie shyt

imo elite schools and universities in generals are the key to developing black neighborhoods and black people, and its not just about getting in, its about the process, in that even if you dont get in just the process of trying turns you into a more productive and more educated person

there is a whole world of tutoring that a lot of people dont know about or dont realize how deep it is

this is a typical example http://www.advantagetesting.com/ you can literally hire phd to help you with your algebra homework or help you write a paper http://www.advantagetesting.com/tutors

I think it depends on what you want in life. If you are trying to get $$$$ at brand name companies/firms, elite schools offer a direct path into that life. After studying at one of these schools I see how they attract all the top recruiters that pay the most out of school. Then when students from this school get into the top law firms, consulting firms, etc they go back and pull more and more people from the elite school. And then basically everyone else is shut out.

I know a talented white male who applied to a top consulting firm. They took one look at the schools on this guy's resume and said, "You really think you have a chance to work here coming from that undergrad institution. Dream on." This is how it is.:manny:

If your undergrad school makes or breaks your success in life... You prob don't deserve success

its not as corny as the current state of rap music

I was trolling.

Anyway, ivy league schools are grossly overrated. Even if I were a billionaire sending my kids off to a good/great school would suffice. Harvard is no different than any other school it just has that air of prestige, history, and name-brand recognition associated with it.

imo the takeaway from the story is motherfukers start planning shyt from the time their kids are 2 years old, i think the process itself is something we can learn from

i kinda sorta agree that elite schools are overrated in terms of actual learning, at the end of the day all schools use the same books but i dont think the prestige is anything to downplay tho, prestige does open doors

News flash: these people prepping their kids for Harvard at age 2 are neurotic status whores and are likely not happy

Yeah most of these rich fukks are deeply depressed man. It's fukking sad. Watch this documentary on 'haute couture'. shyt is beyond depressing. Old ladies in their 50's, 60's, etc. spending $100k on custom-made dresses. But you could tell from the interviews they have no soul and are miserable deep down inside:

fukk prestige. As long as you end up making a fukkton of money at the end of the day nothing else matters. It just so happen that going to an ivy league and then working at some top law firm is the kind of path many people take. If my children are able to acquire great wealth without going to college then I'm fine by that.

:yeshrug:

thats fine, that's a personal choice, i think for black people we have to learn the process of developing a student that can go to an ivy league, i think that learning process is important

but if you graduate from high school with average grades or dont graduate from high school or cant read and write and do math at a college level you much fewer choices than somebody he has been through a process to get them to the ivy league

i dont really get into the argument of what school people should go to or what major you should take, or in this case whether prestige is important or not, i think thats a personal choice and that choice itself is part of the learning process, there is no right or wrong, whatever choice you make you will learn from it
