The Raw before Buried Alive 1996....HBK vs Steve Austin. It's billed, multiple times, as THE BIGGEST MATCH IN THE HISTORY OF RAW. This is pretty lol since despite Austin having won KOTR and being built up for Bret's return, he really doesn't have much momentum, he's STILL feuding with Savio Vega, he has a count out win over Taker but otherwise is still just doing mid card stuff. I don't think he's even had a single promo on Raw since the KOTR.
The match itself has the first half in split screen because of promos from Sid and Vader/Corny over their number one contender match at Buried Alive, then a bunch of JR doing his shooty bullshyt shytting on Vince, and then the match ends with a run in from Vader and Sid.
It's actually kind of amazing Austin blew up the way he did, because his booking certainly didn't do him any favors. Had Bret not personally played king maker, I think there's a good chance Austin would have just floated around in the mid card for years, being a once in a while IYH main event level guy. It really seems that heading into Survivor Series 1996, Vince still doesn't see shyt in him.
