Low key, but factual, Steamboat/Flair from
Spring Stampede 1994 is better than 2 of the 3 1989 series, and therefore the second best Steamboat/Flair match of all time. These brehs were working in spots and counters to matches they were doing in the
1970s, as well as touching on all of the big 1989 series spots and finishes. Plus you had Brain talking about his history with Flair plus his history with Steamboat going back to Ricky's rookie year in the AWA, Tony talking up their history from the 70s on the entire match.
Steamboat's last PPV main event. The last Flair/Steamboat match on PPV ( there were at least 2 more Steamboat/Flair matches on TV that year, though). Flair's best match in years in either direction. A hot Chicago crowd ( the scene of Steamboat beating Flair for the title in 1989) who stayed hot despite them working a full on mid-late 80s NWA title match in 1994. An ignored classic on a weirdly underrated and varied show that had ECW style brawls (
Cactus/Payne vs Nasty Boys), 1980s bloody brawls (
Dustin Rhodes vs Bunkhouse Buck), technical TV Title style shyt (
Pillman vs Regal), HOSS battles (
Vader vs Boss Man),
Sting vs Rude before Rude was totally shot, a straight 1994 NJPW match with
Muta vs Austin with Muta working like Mutoh for 90% of the match and was actually better than Austin vs Mutoh in the 1992 G1.
I know years ago SS 94 got hype online, but it seems to have faded in favor of 1992 WCW shows and 1999 Spring Stampede. It's a top 5 WCW PPV for sure. Strong as hell from top to bottom.
