TSC Tag Teams/Stables Evaluation #3: The Shield

New Day a better stable overall though, longest tag team reign of all time and a better catalogue of matches

I have to disagree on this. New Day is funny. Great chemistry and fun promo, all that but let’s be reality. Most of their promos are essentially sanitized Black Twitter tweets. We love it cause we get it And wrestling wise I’d put the Usos over them without a second thought.

When the Shield were on, they were fukking on. As a fan, you anticipated them showing up all night. If they showed up in the beginning of the show, you were praying they’d come out again towards the end. They were FUN, both as heels and as faces. I can’t remember them ever having a boring feud or some stale match that felt unimportant. I guess they just weren’t together long enough for that.

They had barely been on the roster 2 months but you knew as soon as Sierra Hotel India Echo Lima Delta hit, some shyt was gonna go down.

Idk how the WWE got The Shield so right but I’m glad they did

I think their post careers almost eclipse them as a group. I honestly didn't know they're run was only a year and a half. They were all you heard about it and they reference The Shield so much you'd think they've been together for four-five years. I had to downgrade them to an 8 especially for that weak, forced and unneeded, reunion.


They had one hot season and a half and they just blew up individually successful? The Shield are Freaks and Geeks

Gave em a 6. Their initial run was fresh but didn't last as long as it should've and the reunion has been anything but dope and feels neutered.

I gave them a 6. They were just booked incredibly well as the "hounds of justice". As a unit all of their individual flaws were hidden. They were split up too soon. They should never be mentioned with other more iconic stables and tag teams, though. so they have to bumped down to 6 because when eventually I'd imagine teams like the Dudleys, Hardyz, Horsemen, DX, etc...are going to need space to be ranked higher. The Shield wasn't on that level.

Hard to judge them factoring in the current run because it has never felt like a big time reunion thanks to illness and injuries, so I won't even bother to include it. They just need to give it a rest and try again in a few years.

Some of the best booking WWE has done in the last 17 years has been the original Shield run. It was damn near perfect. I give them a 9 overall because like so many others mention, their run was too short. Had they gotten another year or so in, they'd be a 10. Regardless, they are a legendary stable. They brought a feeling and type of atmosphere to wrestling that is rarely felt these days.

Punk and Bryan were both ringside and the spotlight was solely on these two factions. when they, briefly, first squared off. Great moment, great rivalry. Bray never looked more credible than in those matches.
