TSC Evaluation #53: William Regal

I have to go with a 7 because as much as I enjoyed watching him, he really doesn't have stand out matches in his career. Great on the mic, great in the ring, great at entertaining...but match wise he just doesn't have the pedigree to live up to his talents. It's weird, but it was a byproduct of his style in an era where no one in the US worked like him. He's really one of my favorites to watch, he just doesn't have the matches to get a higher rating. Wildly entertaining chap who could go from brutal bad ass to foppish stooge in a heart beat.

Giving Regal a 7 cause though he could do a lot, he was never truly given the ball to get to the next level, through both companies and his own doing. I can't give him any higher cause I can't point to any distinct matches that resonated with me. Hell, he took part in one of the worst matches I've ever seen (Regal vs Raven at Invasion). I can never burn that match out my head. shyt was ugly as fukk. Wish I could really go into more detail about him, but he was a good guy among other guys who I found more appealing.

Dude has the uncanny ability to make gold out of pure shyt....even the man's man gimmick got a chuckle out of me
Could cut a promo with no problems
Could flat out wrestle. The Regal Stretch is . Made the TV title into something real important next to Arn Anderson. His matches with Finlay are some of the stiffest matches I've seen outside of Japan..I mean they were really pulling no punches..literally
Hated him as a kid but as i got older appreciate this work even more

His demons, injuries, and drug use curtailed his chances of seeing what he could really do at the top level and it brought down the quality of his matches as his career progressed.

for him overcoming all that and is now training and imparting that knowledge onto a newer generation..lord knows they need it

Thoroughly repped for the UK with his insults. Hearing him call someone a toerag on TV was , because you never expect to hear that slang anywhere except a pub in East London.

easy 8. One of my favorite wrestlers of all time. One of my favorite heels. One of my favorite wrestling styles.

Doesn't break the crust into "legend" territory.

plus his feud with Dean Ambrose in FCW/NXT (with Dean damn near in full Jon Moxley mode) is one of my favorite feuds of the last 10 years.

Don't know why, but this was one of my favorite moves from this period very simple but had enough flare to be nice
