Trump will eliminate the department of education. Schools telling history that America was built by slaves on stolen land won't receive money

Does he have the power by himself to do that? Or does he need Congress help?

I don't think he's going to win. But if he did, I don't think it will.be that simple. Similar to him building a wall

dude doesn't even hold public office and he was able to stop the border bill in congress.

If Trump wins you just know they gonna force (or pay) Clarence Thomas to retire and put in a super maga cac.

And God forbid if Sotomayor kicks the bucket. She's in her 70s.

We really staring down a possible 6-3 or 7-2 conservative court for the rest of most of our lives. And you think you're going to get any targeted "tangibles" passed, let alone allowed to stand up to these justices.
We wouldn't even be able to get targeted tangibles now with SCOTUS the way it is. If Trump wins and is able to put more conservative justices on the court black America is essentially finished. There will be no progress for an entire generation and our children will have to deal with the consequences of it, likely for the majority of their lives.

Y'all support the department of education being in Washington? .
That seems effective to you? So the education of little Sally in Idaho needs to be wired through Washington? This helps the kid? That's the most efficient way to go about meeting her needs directly

Or y'all want to worship bureaucracy some more?

The public education system is merely an intersection of a job's program, daycare and indoctrination center

I bet the first person to have an emotional response to this will neg me but they also probably repeat things like "we need to better fund our education system" - they repeat things and then never think beyond the surface level, I mean ... Why should they, the consensus method they live by already verifies the position ... We need to spend more on education right?

Ranked first in spending and ranked last in the top 40

That's effective to you

Send more money to Washington brehs

That'll help :smugbiden:
Youre falling for billionaire propaganda and don't know it.

Let me put it in plain language why people like Betsy Devos want to get rid of the Department of Education. The end game is to privatize everything provided by the government now as a public service so said billionaires can make a profit. This is it. This is why they aren't only advocating getting rid of the Department of Education but even things like FEMA. Imagine having to pay a private entity for disaster relief. Because, as been shown with the introduction of voucher programs when it has been used to replace public schools, the quality of education is actually lower because teachers don't have to be accredited or follow federal expectations and it's costs more for people. Doesn't save money. Also a lot of counties this has occurred in have seen fly by night schools pop up providing an inferior product and dissolving in order to make a quick buck.

You claim you want to learn, here is a good place to start.

The solution to everything you mentioned is to improve the system not get rid of it. But that requires work.

Here is a way to simplify almost all political debates in our society and view it through a proper lenses. Almost every issue is not a Republican VS Democrat issue. It's actually a battle of power groups between the monied and elite classes who use their money and power to steer society and the rest of us who want society to benefit us. This often causes conflict because we do not share interests. A billionaire for example doesn't care about universal healthcare. They are against it expecially if they make their money in Healthcare because this will be a loss of their profit. Almost every issue can be distilled into this formula.

I mean the textbooks only show the very basics of Slavery and native genocide. shyt is watered all the way down. What more are they trying to remove?

Bet you they not trying to touch the holocaust though.:sas2:
Before Civil Rights not only did school not teach the horrors of slavery but they actually portrayed it as beautiful and a lot of propaganda similar to gone with the wind was used to portray how happy slaves and black people were.

This is what they want to return to. Slavery was actually good and black people were better off under it and they should be thankful the white savior saved them from their sorry state.

Black Self-Sufficiency

"OK. Where did the idea come from? Well, when he was running for president in 1976, Jimmy Carter promised the National Education Association that he’d create a federal Department of Education if elected (at the time, federal education programs already existed, but were housed at the then-Department of Health, Education, and Welfare). Carter got Congress to create the new Department of Education in 1979. Running for president in 1980, Ronald Reagan pledged to dissolve it, and the Republican platform adopted that promise. So, Republican calls to end the department have been around about as long as it’s existed. In fact, Trump talked about dissolving it when he was in the White House with a Republican Congress. Yet, you’ll note that the department is still here."

He is promising the same thing Republicans have promised since Reagan ran for office in 1980. So this time around is just an iteration of what they have been saying to their supporters every election cycle.

Breh I appreciate this post and your perspective

but the American education system is worthy of a class action lawsuit, not reform.

Look at your local municipal budget, see how much goes to education? It's likely your top-funded thing so the funding is there already so there's no reason this can be handled locally and parents need more choices, not less

Privatization of public services doesn't work. It's been proven time and time again. The poor lose out, and the rich rake in profits using government money.

If you want private school, pay for it with your own money or get a scholarship.
