I don't judge the parties based on what candidates say they will do. That's a really dumb way to judge the parties, since a lot of campaign promises don't end up manifesting.

The only reasonably way to judge a party is based on the record of what they have done, and both parties have consistently voted to significantly increase military spending.

Judge people by what they actually do, not what they say they will do.
one party caused a global "war on terror" that has destabilized regions...
and caused us to HAVE to spend money until we can find a legitimate exit...
the issue isn't the money spent on military (it an issue for a separate topic)....
the issue is acting like they can't find a way to fund these programs....

"But the Republicans started the wars"

Yes, but does that mean Democrats have to accept bribes from defense contractors, too?

Don't you think there's a reason why defense contractors pay roughly as many bribes to Democrats as they do to Republicans? :jbhmm:

You think they're giving all this money for free?

It's because they know both parties will prioritize increasing military spending, there will always be another excuse to justify it.

You're right.

When I say unsustainable, I mean unsustainable considering the political reality that Democrats and Republicans are corrupt and rather funnel the money to the Military Industrial Complex rather than social programs.

youre missing my point...
once a war is started..both sides lose political capital by ending the war without a concise exit...
the amount spent on an ongoing war is a different topic than being ABLE to allocate money to social causes...
only one party have visible plans for this...

Reality is both are inevitably collapsing just from the math. Way too many people retiring vs. paying in to the system, completely unsustainable.

I hope no one under 50 is expecting these to be around by the time you retire.

Not really, that's a right wing talking point. Raise or eliminate the payroll tax cap and social security is solvent long term. In terms of Medicare I'm not concerned short term. Long term the solution is going to have to be a matter of priority. On the right, the argument is that we simply don't have money to sustain it...while we magically have the money to sustain endless tax cuts and endless expansions of military spending. Which is it?
