Cheeto is responsbile for drawing attention to it though... the Pentagon issued a press release using the MOAB terminology, which was certainly approved or even encouraged by the WH. A press release regarding a specific type of bomb being used is pretty unusual its deliberate.

Only thing is the media is taking the bite and regurgitating the headlines that he wants, instead of asking more far-reaching questions about how or why this is different and the Afghanistan mission at large.

What his detractors don`t realize is that its in his favor to appear to have a more active and action-oriented foreign policy. This plays well with GOP voters at large. In reality, nothings changed in Afghanistan for better or worse other than this branding.

Probably be doing something similar aye, the US/UK has been bombing the shyte out of/ invading someone forever and it doesn't seem to matter who's in charge.
