What's so pathetic about it?

Two things here
1) POTUS right to make demands of a foreign country, he is the executive of the country. That part is probably not an issue, unless.

2) Then there is POTUS investigating his potential presidential opponent that has officially declared he is running, by making demands from a foreign country.

• That part could be impeachable.
• Tricky in the sense too that candidates always investigate one another.
• So then is it using the power of the position the problem? If Trump had hired a private investigator to look into Biden's Ukraine situation on behalf of his campaign, using campaign money, is that an impeachable offense or just politics?

My main question is would it have been potentially impeachable to make that same demand of Ukraine before Biden officially declared his was running?

If anyone would like to respond to my questions let me know your viewpoint.

The conduct amounts to high crimes. That's irrespective of Biden's (non)candidate label.
