I’m getting less confident about this impeachment by the day.

The shock value of it will wear off over time.

Trump, Pence and the whole right wing are starting to get on message that Hunter getting paid 50k a month to serve on the board of a Ukrainian energy company while Joe was VP and leading diplomatic efforts there was a worthwhile investigation. The average person will mostly just see it as 2 corrupt sides bickering.

Impeachment will get either voted down in the Senate or that turkey-necked devil will get a simple majority to vote to not bring it to trial.

Trump will get another W and talk about how the Democrats and the deep state have conspired to overturn the election result twice and he beat them both times. He’ll crush Elizabeth Warren in 2020 and get re-elected, probably with help from Russia and maybe other nations too. R.I.P. United States of America.

I tried to tell yall ages ago that this was the likely outcome. :francis:

It was foolish from the jump to think the Senate would ever remove Trump.

they don't really have a leg to stand on there because of ivanka, jared, don jr., eric...and presumably whatever that other one's name is. it's even worse with ivanka and jared considering they're actual white house employees.

i know the democrats are fukking terrible at messaging and really pounding people over the head with an strong and simple narrative to follow but come on...this shyt is a lay-up. if they screw it up, they might as well off themselves.

It doesn't really matter what the Democrats do.

Trump has conditioned his supporters (and Republicans in general) to simply not believe any negative story about Trump.

This is gonna be the Republican mantra. The Biden investigation was a legitimate state function that was about rooting out corruption, not politics.

It’s bullshyt, but his supporters won’t care and I doubt casual low-info voters will either.

If the evidence continues to be this obvious and the Senate still refuses to force Trump out, then the Senate will be putting their necks on the line in 2020 where 35 seats are up for reelection, of which, 23 are currently occupied by the GOP

Democrats would only have to swing like +4 of those seats for a majority and if they swing +13, they approach a Super Majority (enough to impeach a president with no bipartisan support).

As long as the polls show strong support for impeachment, GOP would be crazy to continue to back an impeached president in an election.

That’s not the point of this exercise though. Everyone knows the Senate won’t vote to impeach.

The point to publicly lay out a pattern of crime and corruption by the president. And impeachment gives them more ammo in the courts as well.

Otherwise, the House is abdicating its responsibility.

Is that what you want? You guys seem to be falling over yourselves to explain how Trump is going to get away with it.

Maybe subconsciously that's what you want idk

Nah, sometimes the truth is just ugly and unpleasant. Trump has spent the last three years getting away with everything, there's just not much reason to think this'll be different. People have heard "This'll bring Trump down" enough times that it's hard to believe.

Be honest with yourself...do you really think any Republican Senators are trying to risk the wrath of MAGA voters?

I'm not even against impeachment really but you're kidding yourself if you think the Senate won't :cape:

I know. I’m for impeachment cause you can’t just stand there and do nothing while the prez is a flagrant criminal. Just saying it will fail.

Yeah that’s it. :beli:

You know damn well not one R in the Senate will vote to impeach him.

I used to feel that way but the last two weeks have really moved the ball. I still don't think they would convict him but that changes by the day. Even if the R's don't convict him I want them on record, I want this to be the poison pill for their whole party.

He's openly blackmailing allies and calling for support from hostile countries to interfere in our election. It's really that straightforward.

I'm less than two years from moving to Europe permanently but I still care about this country, its people, and democracy at large.

Don't give up because things got difficult

I feel like the left is being overly intellectual about this matter when there really isn't anything to discuss.
