It's not a business it's a "SERVICE" as stated in the name United States Postal SERVICE. UPS, FedEx, DHL etc. Only make money because they utilize the post office for non profitable services. I can mail a book from Maine to Guam for $5 with the USPS, UPS would charge $55. This is the same with shipping anywhere within the USA, but especially rural areas. If you live in rural Montana or someplace there are surcharges like $9 depending on your zipcode on top of the increased fee. They pass off the last leg of delivery to the post office.
The alternatives ain't gonna ship to places that aren't profitable so you either won't be getting mail or it'll be shipped to a grouped community PO BOX somewhere where you'll only get mail every two weeks or once a month.
It's definitely an ESSANTIAL service because the amount of medication that gets sent through the mail is massive. All that Medicaid/Medicare prescription is not to turn obscene profits. The whole reason other shipping companies are successful is because of the way things are structured.

This should be the example for folks to better understand. Ya'll remember when prime used to actually be 2 DAYS, and now that shyt is like whenever we get it to you. Amazon handles like 2 million packages a day, post office handles like 1 million an hour.

My brother and brother in law work for the USPS and it’s done the same for themglad my uncle got to retire from the post office four years ago. My cousin might be SOL. It's boring work, but having that gig has changed his life for the better.
