Thw Thing should be a bigger franchise. Should be at least a couple more Thing movies by now.
They'd probably fukk it up...
Like I said before, I'd put it in the hands of Fede Alverez

He seems to understand horror. Evil Dead (2013) and Alien: Romulus:banderas:

And a sequel to The Thing has a lot of potential. This is of course fake but I posted it before. Looks crazy

If they were to ever make a sequel to The Thing, would you guys want them to have it somewhere besides Antarctica?

I had an idea for a sequel but then I realized it was just Invasion of the Body Snatchers(78) with creature effects.

Wouldn't it have to be in Antartica becuz of the extremely low population and the isolation + how far it is from the rest of the world?

Unless you do it in some super remote part of the world like Siberia or something

That definitely makes sense.

My thinking was that the winter/cold setting, and the isolation wouldn't be captured any better than what's already in The Thing.

I thought you could move the story to another area since you'd still have about 3 years, based on Dr. Blair's simulation, before the Thing exponentially takes over Earth.

I also thought since The Thing deals with being isolated in the first movie, the second could deal with the different fears that people have about being around too many people. That seems to be a prevalent issue today especially with so many introverted people. I wanted to see a movie that explored/exploited that fear. I can't Thing of many that does that except Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978

I finally saw this after years of ducking. I understand why it’s held in high regard. I don’t think any character sticks out like Ripley nor is The Thing character as indelible as Alien but this was a great movie

null Can someone tell me why critics hated John Carpenter so much in the 80s?:dahell:

I seriously don't get it

Movie Critics were all from that pretentious Shakespeare's type demo. Wanting to hear doth here now and shyt. Then when given said doth speakth and all that. With modern takes. Critics shyt on Excalibur. They hated too. When Excalibur is the best Shakespeare medieval face ass movie ever made. Yet back then.
shyt like the thing and excalibur was hated on and a fixture of on tv in the morning.
if ebert never came around. Black directors of lore.
or urban movies would have never made it. Ebert was pretentious as fukk too. Till ebert gained ground on siskel. To pull siskel card on the racial spectrum. Since ebert was maybe courting.
or married at the time.
to a black woman. So ebert would take the stfu mode to siskel. Then destory him in argument weekly. Before that tho. Critics were all racist as fukk or lame as fukk. Even ebert would trash shyt that was dope. Yet ebert would pull back and admit fault. Which happened later. Originally ebert was pretentious and wack too tho.

So somewhere ebert gained perspective from his dating slash married life. That made him admit fault. Whereas siskel never did and died. To the point nobody remembers siskel at all and Rightly so. As he was pretentious to almost fully racist publically. Siskel had that kuklos talk down tho. If not for ebert pulling his card. Movies may have never changed. Plus critics would have never become more diverse. I am still better than any critic in history tho. So there is that. As I was rated the highest reviewer there on rt.com.
before they changed to that payola sendoff bs.
they rock with now.
Instead of the personal website era. They migrated from to being all payola accepting clown shows online as so-called critics.

Whut!!?!!!

Only reason the thing is not regarded as high as alien.
was The thing has no device for children.
as a gateway In an r rated movie.

That Morris the cat looking cat and Ripley go a long way. That back in the day.
Word or mouth on the school yard for aliens. Worked universally from child to adult. Whereas as a kid. You needed mental aid after the the thing. Plus could not say you watched. As any parent would have got you help for feeling disturbed. As the thing is the most disturbing unadulterated movie ever made.
Plus the thing is made after alien.
Plus not made in a future with sci fi popping off. So alien has a few gateway elements. That make it the easier critical choice. From director to setting. As again star wars is king and everything falls under what star wars did. So aliens gets the universal critical approval in the thing from a number of semantic reason from timeline of release to setting. To heroine and again. A cat that looks like Morris rhe cat is in the movie. Which gives it appeal. That maybe lost in real time. As nobody in this current era.

probably knows who Morris is. Let alone Mikey.

I THINK I seen The Thing when I was just a kid. Like 30 years ago but I'm not sure. Maybe i'm confusing it with Swamp Thing or The Blob. Anyways, you made me go look it up and I found a fanedit for The Thing 1982 version mashed up with the 2011 version: Things, The - Fanedit.org

I just downloaded it. Maybe i'll watch it one day when my kids are ready for scary movies.

Do not show that to your kids.

Freddy
The thing

You do not show to children, period.
A number of movies like that.
you do not ever show to kids.

On another note, how is everybody feeling about “Alien: Romulus”? I know it’s under wraps but I’m kind of nervous about Ridley Scott giving it praise after being given a personal viewing.
:lupe:

It is either the biggest cop out ever. Or if someone was smart. They make a bridge.
to fix the alien franchise and bring back Ripley and Newt. To fight weylan.

I've never seen The Thing :ohhh:

But I do know I've always liked Predator way more than Alien and like posters have said, the effects in these movies sh*t on today's CGI.

You should really watch that movie.

Only way to make a thing movie. Is where the thing gets eradicated with googles to see and eliminate the threat. Where a 3d effect movie would fail. Plus the studio would never approve it. After it failed and they botched the remake. Hollywood is not smart enough to make a sequel. I do not think anyone is smart enough in Hollywood to make a sequel. As those movies are based on those what if sci fi horror novels. That were one shot style story telling. That really are more built into the cerebral discussion. Then dumbed down by Hollywood to make money. So those movies just do not have any way to attach a sequel to. Plus they really have no one who can write it. No comic book to screen play writer is that talented publically to do it now. Plus the current gen has no appreciation to make anything moving forward as well.

I kinda agree. I don't think its a talent question issue...more a talent they want to use.

Hollywood right now seems like it's tough for a first time director or writer to get a studio movie made. There's more options to release indie films but idk how good their returns are if they release something to Shudder or wherever.

Real talk.

When I was in comic school. There was no like prospective writers in the class. So not sure how well versed anyone moving forward is.
As far as being this writer.

So I ain't seen it in nature.
Just like being an emcee.
I have not seen this next guy in nature. As they do not exist.

I wish they did but they do not.
