My understanding is that Matt and Woody won't return next season. They will finish the chapter and move on to another story. Kinda like American Horror Story.

As far as I know the writer will be the same. People are :whoo: over the dialogue, and for good reason, it's great, but IMO 3 episodes isn't enough to put this along side anything, let alone above anything.

What if it stays as good or better? If this season ends on par or stronger than the first 3 eps would you be willing to put this on par with some of the elite shows of the past decade?

No, and that's nothing against this show. I personally never say a show is on par or better with any of the all time greats until, at the very least, 4 seasons. The last time people tried to hand a show the crown off one season was "Homeland", and we seen how that turned out.

But on a serious note, that scene shows that Marty has a problem with control.

Wasn't he an all american? He has a beautiful wife. Beautiful children. Nice house. Position of leadership at his job. He doesn't lose.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. That's why Rusty is a perfect counterpart to him. He doesn't give a fukk about Marty's accolades.

i dont think it shows he has control issues, think it shows more that the perception he's putting out there for people isnt his true self, but he does it cause he cares what people think...that he isnt comfortable with himself, has internal conflict, and doesnt know who he is...that's why rust is the perfect counterpart: rust doesnt give a fukk what people think and he's good with himself; he knows who he is....that's why marty admires rust and praises him so much, even after whatever happens to cause them not to speak for 10 years...

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
Without doubt Rust is going to beast dude's wife.

Naw, breh. The writer is pulling an "inception" on y'all. He's making you see things from Marty's perspective and the vantage point that most normal people have (e.g., it's inappropriate to cut another man's yard, etc). But, Rust himself isn't normal. He doesn't adhere to the social niceties, nor the social expectations that most people do. For example, dude was brazenly talking shyt about religiosity during a sermon in a revival tent like it was an everyday occurrence for him. Even as an agnostic myself, when I have the misfortune of going church for some reason every blue moon, I'm not in that bish like, "bullshyt," every time the pastor speaks. I'm looking at the clock and ready to jet. He has a misanthropic view of humanity. Subsequently, he's not interested in women or p*ssy or whatever. This is the same dude that said his daughter's death spared him the sin of being a father. :wow:

If he hooks up with Maggie, it would go against everything his character is and has been about. I don't see it. I hope the writer isn't setting him up to be this huge hypocrite. I don't think he is, though.

Also, Marty in 2012 under all the feigned backhanded stuff about Rust speaks about him in reverential and glowing terms. I don't think he'd do that if Rust had tapped his wife.

Is this show an atheist soap box, all I keep hearing is Rusts religious rants for 5 minutes and then a lack luster straw man response by Woody. Then you have the general hypocrisy that is Woody's life in comparison to his values. There isn't much balance in this message so I'm assuming that the bias is intentional. I guess you could say there is a little balance in Rusts shytty life brought on by the reality of his conclusions though.

i disagree...i think the show has great balance in the sense that both sides are being portrayed pretty well...atheists usually want to show they are so much smarter than religious folk, so they tend to try to prove that by going on long tirades bashing religion, the beliefs, the people, and the meaning of life to them (rust)....where as on the other end of the spectrum, religious folk tend to go with the simple, straight forward 'i have belief/faith' answers (marty)....

also, the writing for marty's responses to rust are beautiful...he lets rust talk and then makes a smartass comment going at his intellect, which is great...ex: the paranoid talk at the revival...'for someone that doesnt care to much, you sure do think about it a lot and you sound paranoid'

when cheaters get mad at someone else cheating, its ALWAYS a control issue….doesn't get any more obvious than that

think about it, you say it yourself, rust doesn't give a fukk what people think and he's good with himself - he controls his emotions and actions in life

marty? he's a superficial professional jock at this point. everything in his life that's important to him is important because the world values it. its all status. his wife. his kids. his job. faith in god. that's why his wife is out here singing tamia

Its clear to me that Marty envies Rusts ability to own his life and face his demons. That's why he admires him so much in the interviews.

Also its clear to Marty, that Rusts owns him at everything. He already proved he can give him that work in a fight. He's emotionally stealing his wife from him. What's next? The kids?
