I thought rust was critizing their white picket fence lifestyle. Rust is a world weary intellect whose not into the trappings of normal society and they look at him as a weirdo. Marty was coming at him like he was jealous because he's married with kids and shyt, like he has life figured out.
Rust with that quote was hitting him with a verbal like nikka, youre cheating on your wife, you dont know what you want and your daughter is a whore, but you mentally buy into this bullshyt because you think its the american dream, i.e something to salute.

idk. what does the "eat your young" statement have to do with any of that? I thought he was referring to Marty ruining his family. The meaning of what he said has definitely been the most obscure for me to figure out. I've rewatched the scene multiple times

In the wild certain animals literally eat their young.

At this point he knows Marty is full of shyt, been cheating on his wife, etc. that's why he said "what, you going home to play with the kids?"

He's basically saying as long as you pretend to be good, it doesn't matter to you people how bad or full of shyt you are. As long as you have a cause to run after, or "salute", you can be as hypocritical as you want to be. That's why he got so offended when Marty insinuated he was acting "off" over not getting laid. He's out there investigating the Yellow King shyt and Marty is thinking he got something as trivial as p*ssy on his mind.
