That's because they set up 2-3 spots where they could edit two or more takes together in case they didn't get a full take that looked good.

There could have easily been edits at the helicopter and the sheets drying. Don't know why I'm getting involved in this argument though, I don't give a flying fukk about the technical aspects of storytelling.

DAMN THIS IS A STRETCH...BUT ANOTHER THEORY

While some people thought billboard hangers had messed up the posters when they first went up, it's that unique "split" poster design that's the biggest clue of all. On the show, Marty's hair is not just Harrelson's tow-head blond — it's straight yellow. And while we see it in various styles throughout the decades spanned in the series, the show's poster cuts it off at the crown of his head (yes! The crown!), highlighting Marty's hair on its own plane, below. Take a closer look now that we've pointed out the obvious:

Read "The King in Yellow" the other day. Does not live up to the hype. It has good moments though but the story does not really go anywhere. Ruined potential after the first chapter.

It's completely separate short stories. "The King In Yellow" or aspects of it is just mentioned in each. And :wtf: at "it didn't live up to the hype". There is no hype surrounding it, it's pretty obscure as far as this type of stuff goes.

Chambers had a hot line, Lovecraft made it a hot song.

Okay now I know for a fact Rust played the cops and that Marty was in on it. When those detectives showed him those Picts of him at the crime scenes and he said how you keep these out the press with a smile on face, he had got what he wanted from them. He said they had friends in high places because he was right about being on the trail of the killer and that he was connected to higher ups. He basically played poker with them and they showed their hand to him. The case file they had nothing in it because there was no search for the 2012 killer by the cops. They knew Rust was on the case and getting close, they interviewed him to get a read on him and see what he really knew. Marty was brought in to provide support to the case they were building on Rust as a patsy. They knew they had problems from before and that's why they showed the file to him they had built up to Rust down. My theory is that in realty Marty is just as cunning as Rust when they put this plan together to make him seem weak and easy to manipulate while in realty he is the opposite of that. Bringing in Marty wife is just another way to rattle Rust and Marty into revealing themselves . I bet she is going to come and give a speech on how Rust was a good guy but had demons that he couldn't let go of. She will say after discovering the killer that made them Rust belittled Marty into thinking he was a simple minded and easy to control guy and they come to blows over that and that's what the killed the friendship .
:obama:I'm following you on the bolded.

The rest, yeah, I could see it playing out like that, but I don't necessarily agree with that as much as I do the bolded part.

It does seem like a strange, intentional decision with that poster though.

:rust:
It does, but that's a very strange clue just to put somewhere like that.

Also, the marketing team probably didn't know the extent of the complete story whenever they made the posters.

It doesn't tie into it at all. God/Satan doesn't exist in The Cthulhu Mythos, the only gods are the Great Old Ones (Cthulhu, Azathoth, Nyarlathotep, Yog-Sothoth, Hastur aka The King In Yellow, etc.)

Now, one of the Great Old Ones, Nyarlathotep aka The Crawling Chaos, is often mistaken for Satan and is worshiped as such. He appears as a handsome charismatic man that offers power and prestige to his followers, but it always leads to ruination and madness.

That's the thing about the Great Old Ones though, they're bad news. You've probably seen movies or read stories where someone sells their soul to the Devil in exchange for riches or power....the Great Old Ones have no interest in humans or souls. They want to wipe out all life on Earth, that's it. They don't make deals and they don't reward their followers. Only the most depraved, insane people (like Reggie Ledeux) would willingly worship them.

Side note:

Nic Pizzolatto is probably using Chambers "The King In Yellow" instead of directly referencing Lovecraft because "The King In Yellow" is public domain. No one holds the copy right to it so it's free. Also he gets the added bonus of it tying into The Cthulhu Mythos, anyway, for free. Lovecraft's stuff is kind of a legal nightmare as far as copyrights go.

Another thing that got me on Marty wife is that she is a matchmaker it seems , the two girls she tried to hook Rust with like girls who went that school , think I'm reaching? Look at the class pictures again , they are around the same ages as the girls she introduced Rust to .
