I'm of the notion that the mind-body gap has been solved, but a lot of people are still holding out for the moment when we can view life through someone elses eyes...its the same people who marginalize ever advance in lieu of some other "hold out" they can hold over the rest of our heads.

Yes.

They can and do.

HOWEVER, if you make yourself susceptible to irrational claims, then you hold yourself hostage to a frame of reference that prevents you from coming to make substantiated claims or discerning the validity of certain claims.
