Whenever people talk about wrestling being bigger than it's ever been, I just know that they were born in the 2000s. In the 80s/90s wrestlers were literally everywhere.
I doubt wrestling will ever again reach the pop culture status that it had in the 90s when I started watching during the Monday Night Wars era.

It may be more profitable than it’s ever been, but it’s nowhere remotely close to as popular as it was back then.

Even during the territory days it was hugely popular and filling up stadiums despite the lies that WWE’s revisionist history wants you to believe, but nWo helped catapult wrestling into the stratosphere and guys like the Rock and Stone Cold ran with it in the WWF.

See I don’t get what this means.

Wrestling is more global than ever. They’re always breaking hundreds of millions of views on social media, breaking gate records… all the shows sold out.

Damn near every celebrity be at these events now.

I see dudes trying downplay it too…. “Yeah Travis was there… yeah drake front row but imagine if this was 2015 in their prime” Like huh lol

I don’t know which one is more popping but I swear it’s just a bunch of dudes saying “nah man you had to be there everyone was talking about it”

Like everyone not talking about Roman, cena, rock, and Cody now

How can nikkas even judge… they were like 12 with no social media and only talked about wrestling with the same five people

Like I said, Wrestlers were literally everywhere. Wrestlers were on talk shows, tv shows, magazine covers, and being talked about like Hollywood celebrities. Social media numbers aren't reliable since it's not unique views. 120mil views doesn't mean 120mil people watched the video. You can't possibly believe that this era of wrestling is bigger than the years prior to 2004.

Wrestlers are still doing all that.

We just don’t watch that shyt anymore and the way things were promoted back then is a different priority

Social media numbers aren’t reliable but those sold out WWE’s shows are

These could be argued as empty superlatives.

"hundreds of millions of views on social media," = Yea, more people have social media more than ever and the biggest peaks have been guys from former eras (Rock/Attitude and Cena/Ruthless Aggression).

Breaking gate records = They're charging more than ever and all them shows ain't sold out

The real test (as with anything) is how they cross over;

Hot Ones - Becky AND Seth 1.9 million views last year

Bill Murray (in 4 days) 3.4 million views

Questlove - 1.1 millions views in 1 months

Ken Joeng - 1.7 million views in 2 months

PR speak falls apart with actual metrics

I could keep going

But, I'm not here to shyt on the WWE, just answer the question

But, I do agree with WRESTLING AS A WHOLE being more accessible.

IDK a lot of these wrestlers have millions of followers on social media. I do think they are pretty popular all things considered. Plus, the tickets they are selling right now alone speak to the popularity.

shyt, even AEW's PPV last night did over 11k at the Crypt in Los Angeles. It's wild for a distant #2 promotion to be doing that.

Hogan joining the Nwo is always number 1..... Cena was already a heel before :camby:

What shock people with Hogan is people never thought Mr eat your vitamins and movie star would never turn bad

Hogan talking about the younger wrestlers needing to pump gas on their way to high school always kills me. :mjlol:

Then him saying his catchphrase like a madman while grabbing Mean Gene. :mjlol:

That's wrestling bubble talk. Jey can have an entire stadium throw their hands up & down, but do you think he could appear at a football game and get the same reaction? No one except someone living in the wrestling bubble could make the argument that wrestling today is equal/greater in popularity than wrestling in the past.

I’m not sure about Jey but you got Roman, Cody, Cena, Rock, Logan Paul, cm punk, etc they all count since they’re active wrestlers

shyt I forgot Rhea… I will die on the hill she’s known out the bubble I experience it
