I always get negged when I say it but it is a divisive term, white peole are just called "americans" so it implies that black people and not regular Americans, only whites are.

Have never called myself African American. The most I’ve done is fill it out on a job application or other form. Never cared for the term. We built this country and it’s wealth more than any other group. If anyone has the right to just be called American it’s us.

I don't claim to be Native American/aboriginal personally, but I've done my genealogy. My great grandmother was half-native with long Black hair. Blackfoot.
