Hawkeye is a quick-witted rogue from the fortress of Nevari. Although in the desert, it’s far from deserted and acts as the home to a guild of noble thieves, led by Hawkeye’s adoptive father Flamekahn. The guild leader took the orphaned Hawkeye in at an early age, and our raised him alongside his own children Eagle and Jessica.

Hawkeye has grown into a smart and skilled young man who is fiercely loyal to his friends… though his somewhat laid-back attitude can make it difficult for them to know when he’s being serious.

Riesz is a young princess from the mountainous kingdom of Laurent. Despite her young age, she’s already one of the fiercest fighters in the region and captain of the famous Amazon Guard to boot! Her intense commitment to her kingdom is only superseded by her love for her family – particularly her brother Elliot, who she’s helped raise since her mother passed away.

Her unbreakable will and down-to-earth attitude mean that some could perceive Riesz as stubborn – but that’s not the case. She’s a compassionate warrior who will jump into action to help those in need without hesitation.

Although these brave heroes are very different people, their worlds are about to collide. When Hawkeye’s father starts acting oddly, and unexpectedly launches an invasion of Laurent, both characters’ lives are changed forever.

As for how… that’s up to you. Another awesome thing about Trials of Mana is that you choose three heroes out of six, and the story will change depending on your picks. So although Hawkeye and Riesz may join forces in one person’s game, they could never meet in someone else’s. It makes for an impressively varied and replayable adventure.

So Trials of Mana is a direct sequal to Seaken Densetsu 3 or what?

Also that trilogy is way overdue.

With that said, this is a series that needs to brought back into prominence.

Edit: Ah I get it it's a remake of Seiken Densetsu 3, long overdue.

Trials of Mana details growth system, abilities, appearance changes, seeds, and more

Square Enix has released new information and screenshots of
Trials of Mana, its upcoming remake of the 1995-released Seiken Densetsu 3, introducing the game’s growth system, abilities, appearance changes, seeds, and more.

Get the details below.

■ Character Growth System

By leveling up, a character’s basic stats such as HP and Strength will increase. By allotting the “Growth Points” obtained by leveling up, you can strengthen your character with special skills, stat boosts, and new abilities.

Trials-of-Mana_2020_02-19-20_001.jpg

Stat Boost

By allotting a fixed amount of Growth Points, you can boost either your HP, MP, Strength, Defense, Spirit, Intellect, and Luck. Your allotted points can also be reset upon visiting a certain place…

Special Skills

These are magic and special attacks that, when learned, are automatically registered as special skill Ring Commands, and can be used on the field and in battle. Using them drains MP.

Character Abilities

With a more action-oriented battle system set on a 3D map, various balance adjustments have been implemented. New elements that did not appear in the original game have also been added, and each class has been tuned up to improve their ease of use. Try out various combinations of characters that have learned different abilities.

■ New Element: Ability System

There are various abilities that will prove useful on your adventure. By equipping the abilities you learned, they can then be used. Abilities have various effects, such as enhancing your stats and giving you an upper hand in battle. In addition to abilities that you can learn by allotting Growth Points, there are also abilities that you can learn by deepening the interactions between specific characters. Each time you advance to a higher class, the number of abilities you can equip will increase.

Abilities

By equipping the abilities you learned, you can acquire various effects. There are over 300 abilities in the game, from character-specific abilities to class-exclusive abilities and more.

Link Abilities

Some abilities can be equipped to party members other than the character who learned the ability. These can be obtained by allotting Growth Points, as well as through interactions with the people you encounter on your adventure.

Exclusive Abilities

After a “Class Change,” you can learn that class’ exclusive abilities. Exclusive abilities do not need to be equipped—their effects are activated automatically.

■ New Element: Appearance Change and Class Reset

Outside of leveling up, you can strengthen your characters through Class Change. By changing classes, you can learn new special moves and magic. Class Change has stages, allowing you to choose from a path of “Light” or “Darkness,” and your character’s abilities will change depending on your choice. A new “Class Reset” feature has also been added to the game, allowing you to return to your initial class by using the “Goddess Scales.”

Class Change not only changes the appearance of your equipped weapon, it also changes your costume in a big way. After a Class Change, it is also possible to change to the appearance of a lower class while maintaining the abilities of your current class. Choose your favorite costume for each character.

As with a Class Change, by talking to a Mana Stone with the Goddess Scales obtained, you can perform a “Class Reset.” The Goddess Scales are hidden somewhere in a treasure chest. It seems to be a very hard to find item.

■ New Element: Run-Ins with Friends

When you enter a town, the party will split up and the protagonist will move around alone. Your party members will be somewhere in town doing their own thing, so if you find them, talk to them.

■ Seeds and Planters

By planting the seeds found on the field and dropped by monsters at the flowerpots located at the entry of each inn, you can obtain items and equipment.

There are five seed types: “Item Seeds,” “Silver Item Seeds,” “Gold Item Seeds,” “Rainbow Item Seeds,” and “??? Seeds.” Your “Planter Level” will increase based on the amount of seeds you plant. The higher your level, the greater the chances your seeds will produce good items, and the higher the chances monsters will drop seeds.

Item Seeds, Silver Item Seeds, Gold Item Seeds, and Rainbow Item Seeds

These seeds grow various different items and equipment. Items are ranked by silver, gold, and rainbow, from worst to best in that order. Rainbow Item Seeds can produce rare equipment that other seeds cannot.

??? Seeds

These seeds produce items necessary for a Class Change. The way these can be obtained have been adjusted, such as now being available in dungeon treasure chests.

■ Other Useful Features

New Items

Items that increase the amount of EXP and GP you receive after battle, as well as those that boost your stats for a fixed period of time have been added. Items can be found in locations such as treasure chests in town and on the field.

Trials-of-Mana_2020_02-19-20_009.jpg

Shortcuts

Up to four frequently used commands from the items and special skills set to the Ring Command can be registered as shortcuts, allowing you to use them quickly and easily.

Collective Recovery

Outside of battle, recovery items and recovery magic can be used on all characters collectively. Choose whether to use “Full Recovery” or “Almost Full Recovery” depending on the amount of items in your possession and MP you have remaining.

Trials-of-Mana_2020_02-19-20_010.jpg

Difficulty Selection

There are four difficulty modes to choose from. Each difficulty differs in terms of monster strength in battle, but the story content is the same among all four. The difficulty mode can be changed from the Options screen. “Very Easy Mode,” in which you can be revived on the spot where you die, is recommended for players who are not good at action games and simply want to enjoy the story.

Additional Save Slots

Save slots have been added, allowing up to 12 save data to be created. And in addition to an auto-save feature, there are now more “Goddess Statues” save points on fields and in dungeons.

I think it's just to have a better Q4.

Trials should have its own space to breathe and gain fans, and followers.

Instead, it'll be "that other square game" and there are a ton of people that aren't trying to play back to back RPGs. I love RPGs and even I break In-between them.

Oh well hopefully it does well enough so we get new Mana games

you make a good point :ehh: but I think square was thinking it was either now or never because a lot big games as well the next gen consoles are going to be coming out after April and maybe they did not want this game to get lost in the shuffle :jbhmm:

True, I kinda had this in the back of my mind as a "side game" or project they were working on to get a quick buck off nostalgic fans.

But after seeing videos they remade it much in the same vein as they did FF7 just with the Mana art style.

I hate to see that not get the props it should :(
