Why would we trust Wilks to do a good job with a couple other defensive linemen though?

Because they forced him to run a defense that wasn't his. That's the core of everything. Running a wide 9 creates natural running lanes. It's the core weakness of the defensive structure. We NEED a lead for the defense to be it's most effective at it's core OR for the game to be close. It cycles back to Kyle and maybe even Lynch.

If we don't have a lead our defense can get worked at it's philosophical core. If another team gets a big lead we're basically screwed if the other team commits heavy to the run.

The run defense was not an issue with the wide nine the past few years. It is the misses on defensive line, ie nit paying Buckner and drafting Kinlaw
