Sam Mitchell was a COTY at one point too. Doc won it in 01 or 02 and by mid-05 or 06, everyone was calling for him to get fired. I don't think Joe Dumars really ever coached, but I included him as HOF player who is bad with player management and talent evaluation (btw didn't know "evaluator" isn't an actually word)
Joe Dumars put together a team that won a championship and was, at the very least, in the ECF every year for like six or seven years, so clearly he has talent in player management.
And Doc had the same problem ANY coach would have - if you don't have good players, you're not going to win a lot of games. It's a PLAYER'S league, not a coach's league. Hell, Larry Brown is considered by some to be the GOAT, but look at his stint in NYC.
Hell, Mike 'Antoni was called a "genius" by those same people who were calling for Doc's job, and look at him now.
