Thank you for stating the obvious that's been missing in this thread. Dudes in here talking about how Obama should have done more by "speaking up". Who gives a fukk about speaking up? You see white people showing their asses now - and that was in response to nice Obama. What was speaking up going to do? WHITE PEOPLE DO NOT GIVE A fukk. PERIOD.
Donald Trump is peak white supremacy. This country is white supremacy. He's been anointed to preserve white supremacy and that's what he's doing. His presidential reason for being is to undo everything that Obama's done. Anything that Obama would have done via executive order would have immediately been overturned on his election, regardless.
Obama also had to deal with a channel (Fox News) that stokes the fires of white anxiety constantly. ANY kind of move in a direction of substantial progress for blacks would have been DOA because of either Congressional inaction or the inherent inability of a black president to control a narrative in a white, racist country. It's that clear. YOU HAD PEOPLE LEGITIMATELY THINKING OBAMA WAS A MUSLIM FROM KENYA and people think he could have lead those people to be reasonable? Stop it.
This is a democracy, not a dictatorship. Every wild thing Trump's been able to get away with he's able to get away with because A. He's white and B. Congress has ceded matters of national security to the president for years. Immigration, borders, and cross-border travel fall directly in that purview, and that's where Trump's been able to get away with shyt.
He still hasn't been able to get away with dismantling Obamacare nor has he been able to get exactly what he wants on other non-national security domestic policies. People constantly bytching about what Obama didn't do either:
A. Don't understand racism in the country
B. Don't understand separation of powers, or
C. Want moral rather than substantial victories

For emphasis. Repubs blocked sensible shyt just so Obama couldn't do anything, yet he was supposed to superman them hoes and do what exactly? Even when people talk about gay and trans rights, a lot of them are white, so of course those issues eventually got some shine (though it can all be undone by the current administration).
All the expectations on him, how he got anything done is amazing. And I didn't even vote for him either time.
