I know teachers in NYC who make 65K (started at around 45) and seem to be living well. Teachers don't work weekends, are basically on an 8-3 day teaching a few classes and they get summers off. Teaching never seemed like that bad of an option.

Think about it if you teach in a large city like NYC, a few years on the job you making about 65K, you get a little year-round side hustle whether it's selling sneakers or whatever, one of my teachers in high school worked for a non-profit as a "college advisor" over the summer, run an after school program or pick up a position as a dean or some type of administrator and marry or get with a shorty that produces money herself you could be living pretty comfortably.

And like I said on most days you gonna be out by 3, weekends off to do whatever you want, not to mention all of the holidays and vacations. Really other than occasional grading and lesson planning you'll be free to chill :manny:

When I'm older I hope to be a teacher after my career is done. Teach some sort of social studies class or government class at the high school level.

Teaching is one of those careers you have to have a passion or Drive for. You can't just go into that field because you think its easy money or not a lot of work

I think that's why so many teachers quit within the first 5 years. The people didn't realize what they got themselves into and hated it. Then you have the group that hate it but can't leave the job so they end up being crappy teachers

:deadrose: biggest mistake people make when they thing about teachers, my girl a teacher, been one for 4 years now , her schedule is pretty much 7am-6pm everyday, with one about 25 min break a day , not counting class prep and grading work she does on the weekends , and the "summer" off is really only about 6-8 weeks which is not the "3 months" everyone thinks they get

trust me this summed it up perfectly, and as far as the salary my girl makes almost about the same but after insurance, union fee etc she barely bringing in above 30k

With an average yearly salary of $43,800, the highest in the the top 5, secondary school teachers rank third in regret with 43%. They problem is that would-be teachers often don’t fully understand what the job involves until after they have started, McLeod says. “I had a friend who was a secondary school teacher and realized on day two she had made an enormous mistake. She was awash in the paperwork required of an educator, as well as the unending parent interventions and the reluctance of students to do the work. She didn’t realize the politics of working in a secondary school system.”

Parker says the challenges that face teachers are daunting. “Although teachers are responsible for preparing the next generation to lead our nation, the education profession is often marred by a lack of resources, dwindling support, and modest salaries,” she says. “Instead of simply teaching children, teachers must simultaneously parent and counsel all while navigating the stressful terrain often found in the bureaucracy of school districts. It takes a remarkable human being to become a teacher but it takes a golden human being to stay one.”

My wife wanted to be a teacher, did teachers college and every thing. After doing her practicum she couldn't take it. I was dating her at the time and man was that an eye opener

Teaching, esp secondary school, is hard as shyt. Its hard work, long hours (she wouldn't be done til 6 everyday) and is mired in politics

And here in Canada its not no where as bad as the states. Teachers start in the 50s, and Toronto is not that expensive

Whoever said a teachers day is from 8 to 3 is Hugely mistaken
People are so ignorant about this. From now on whenever I see a poster say that a teacher's work day ends at 3 they getting put on ignore :snoop:

Even THESE jobs are inaccessible to most people. And the teacher salary is overestimated, you start at like 20k.

anyone can do cashier and bank teller jobs

the school district I went to the starting pay was $35k and I'm sure it's gone up since then. it's public record you can look up teacher's salaries - hell you can look up any state employee.

Yeah, back when I was planning to be a teacher EVERYBODY gave me the :whoa: on middle school/jr. high... I never heard a single good thing about it :whoo:
My aunt is a 6th grade teacher. Based on the stories she told me about what those little girls be doing in class when the teacher steps out I could NEVER be a teacher.

What makes it worse is that that's in the 6th grade. I can't even imagine the shyt that goes on at higher levels. :snoop:
