Too Old to Die Young review - Nicolas Winding Refn's dead-eyed LA nightmare

This review from The Guardian got me dying. You can tell the writer did his best to capture the vibe of the show in words and it is so over-the-top that I know it really must be that absolutely ridiculous and insane. I love it.

I have really liked some of Reddings movies, so I will check for this, but if it is only his worst impulses gone full id, I won't watch long. The Neon Demon came close to that.

The first ep was cool. It plays entirely into everything that most people loathe about Refn (unrelenting symbolism-driven style over substance, pace slower than a feather sinking into molasses) but it is something that truly could only come from Refn. The highlight of the first ep was the scene with the dad in his girlfriend's room which also hinted the strongest at its Lynchian influences.

This show is wild. This is like if you put True Detective & Only God Forgives in a blender and sprinkled some Lynch into it. It aint for everyone but goddamn if you fukk with Refn at his wildest you'll fukk with this.
