Seems more like an artist issue, and consumers who don’t deman incredible music. “The industry” is no longer in control, you can record and distribute music to major platforms from your room and have it take off on social media, if songs like “munch” are what consumers make hot, the industry has no control over that since theyre no longer the ones to break the artist/song
The labels used to have a higher standard for the product (music) they put out. They don't demand the type of QC and musicality in recording, mixing and mastering that produces lasting music. Right now they rely entirely on the pop formula because that's the only thing they can bank on. They don't care about music, they care about algorithms. Algorithms don't make people listen to music, nor do they guarantee quality. This backwards view is one of the main reasons they cannot sustain success.
This is not a discussion about the quality of music
It is, even if it's not in the title...that's what this is about inherently. That's what it will always be about no matter how you process the data.

But all they're really saying is how much music is currently so disposable, that it ultimately affects their business model. The industry...and fans..are too fickle Some argue that it's good, some argue that it's bad.

The way I see it, this doesn't benefit an emerging artist at all. There's no way an unsigned artist can keep up with all of the resources being used to keep an artist relevant. And if the goal is to get the major bag, why would anyone put money behind someone that doesn't really have a core audience with staying power to see a return on that investment?

lol, no, it doesn't. you literally get lost in a sea. look at female rap, there are female rappers who can rap, making good music (example: dreezy) who get no label push because they aren't buzzin and don't buzz because they aren't controversial enough or thotting enough (cardi, city girls, latto) to get on virally, while someone can get a follow from a big artist (ice spice) and literally have the world's attention for a year until they release a mediocre project and go back to the bushes (not rap, but jorja smith, had all eyes on her from some drake co-signs just to blow it on a mid debut and disappear back to the UK)

i'm not gonna pretend like everyone should be a star, but we're not getting better music this way. we get more of it, and sure, you can find your lane, but the overall quality is much lower since the barrier to entry is much lower
I’m crying at the idea of “the cream rising to the top” when on a Thursday and Friday, you can have 17 albums drop, and that’s not even including lesser known artists. As somebody that listens to a lot of artists that I’m sure people haven’t even heard of (to which I randomly make threads about), I can legit be interested in 20+ albums in 1 weekend, and it’s to the point to where I’ll forgot something came out even if I was looking forward to it beforehand.

Yeah it’s a wrap

You think so? The way I see it everyone is rapping about the same handful of topics so the game is wide open for anyone who can be creative enough to do something different whilst still appealing to the masses.

There has to be a renaissance, simply has to be. This stale recycling, style biting, genericism and overall lack of skills feels like fast food compared the home cooked meal style projects of yesterday and the replay value shows because its all disposable now.

Someone will come along and flip the script and then the rest will follow because they see he moved the crowd and they'll start doing the same thing in their own way just like Rakim did back when. Only difference is the signal to noise ratio now means that its got to be something undeniably spectacular, make the whole world sit up and pay attention kind of movement that just grooves through the pocket and hits the soul with a flow spitting vicious lines from a mean pen. Even then it'll be a combination of talent and timing but I've got faith and think we'll see it real soon because its always at times like this an iconoclast steps on the scene and there was the game before him and then after.

Wait and see... The novelty will wear off because the net is still in its infancy in that sense and the current model isn't sustainable.

Thats why its called a renaissance. Even if the consumer hasn't noticed the true artists have and they're the ones that will change the Game.

Idk breh. These artists are more visible than ever before due to the internet. Which is good in some ways becuz it’s easier to market yourself. At the same time it takes the the level of mystery that the biggest stars had back in the day. We know everything about these artists so consumers will like or dislike a artist just becuz they like their online presence. For example I think Summer Walker makes dope music. But on the coli I’ve seen her written off as just another thot becuz of her personal life and social media and she’s dismissed off top. Folks choosing not to listen to the music as a result

I know I should be using the coli as an example
:heh:
