What backing? Tech n9ne introduced kendrick to Dr Dre in 2009, before that it was just TDE.
Were they actually backing him? I remember him mentioning that but he was supposedly dropped before he started buzzing.

But by today's logic anyone who debut album was on a major label and got a push was a plant. That's just how it was. Labels actually invested in and developed the artists. Nobody was crying about Snoop being an industry plant in 1993

No. Hell no. After he got shot nobody wanted to f*ck with him. He was ice cold.
After that he started making noise with mixtapes. There was a bidding war which was kicked into high gear when Em showed interest. The rest is history.
"50 Cent was a plant" is one of the most bizarre things I've read on this site. I got old mags in storage, if I can track it down Blaze did an interview with him and his career had zero traction after the shooting. The industry shut him out.
