tony was also an alcoholic so that might help in social situations.

then again, being an alcoholic doesn't usually fly when your entire social group isn't also a bunch of yes-men employees.

Tony was such a toxic a$$hole. He knew Chris was trying to stay sober so he savors the wine in front of him.

Tells Janice to learn to control her temper after the soccer fight. She starts doing it well, so he intentionally pisses her off and is proud of himself for doing so.

Tony was the loneliest man in a room full of people....had the money and power but no one he could truly call a friend.

he was also a piece of shyt which didn’t help the situation

Just do you breh, try to do some activities that lend themselves to meeting others when this corona lets up

OP im more like you.

But a really close friend of mine has lots of friends.
What ive noticed is that you have to really want that constant communication w/ people.
When he meets someone...he will talk to them about anything...he seems to need the constant busyness of texting/call folks.

As an adult, the way to make friends is through your hobbies.
You meet people doing the activities you enjoy.

Outside of being a mob boss...Tony has lots of friends because he likes being around people...he's somewhat of a schmoozer.
When you watch him interact w/ random people, he is always trying to make them feel comfortable...he looks for a commonality that will spark up a conversation.

His friendships are all tied to his business/work. To be a succesful manager/boss you need to have a lot of relationships . It's no different for Tony. Tony needs to maintain friendships to remain in power. Tony had friends everywhere that's why he lasted as long as he did as the boss.

i rather have a small circle of love than a big circle of hate. Somebody bound to do u dirty and u won’t see it coming

He's connected, the Don of the Jersey side mob, he grew up in it, numerous business legit and illegitimate, has the prototypical family with a busy wife, political ties, etc. That alone would keep a guy busy 24/7/365

Now if he's a lowly foot soldier with no family, no connections, a regular job or maybe no job, hasn't made his bones or any major money yet, etc. We can sure but his life is bare bones and the opposite of a Tony Soprano

ALL of this!

Most were his "friends" because they had to be.

start a business (legitimate or illegitimate) force the people who work for you to hang out with you.

boom you living the tony soprano life.

his only real "friend" i can think of was Artie and he treated him like shyt most of the time and he was used as the help catering half the parties you posted. :mjlol:

I don’t think you would want a social life like Tony Soprano :mjlol:

People often complain about having disloyal or flaky friends, but most of them won’t murder you.

those were fake friends..... they mostly feared and respected him

most also hated him.... Richie, Feech, patsy... and those are just some people in his crew

He couldn’t trust 99% of his circle

yeah he was a dikk.

When you're important and well known a lot of people want to hang around you :yeshrug:

Tony was Mob Royalty, he and his Uncle ran North Jersey for at least 20 years or so and grew up with Paulie, Sil, p*ssy, Artie, Carm, Ralphie, Feech, etc. By default he had a very large social network as the crime family and blood families were intertwined.

Also, he was a very charming sociopath, he kept outside friendships in order to gain something out of someone to help him maintain power.

Vice-Versa, people were friends with Tony to get something out of him or score points with him to gain favor.

Often in his sessions with Melfi, he confessed he felt alone and isolated. His friends weren't really friends, just opportunistic, when he got shot up by Uncle Jun, Paulie and Vito were pissed they had to kick up to Carm....His own Uncle tried to have him popped....

Try a church or sporting club to gain a big social circle? Or college groups....It will be hard to do in Post Covid America.
