Random musings:
* I don't think we have a "great receiving core." I think they're good, but great isn't a word I ascribe lightly. I think too many people get caught up in the sheer numbers we have at WR, but only Kenny, Rashad, and to an extent Kelvin have been productive (whom we forced the ball to too much last year). I do like Dent, but his ball security needs to improve. He did win the Hinesman did off-season, so we will see if that carries over into the fall. I actually like a lot of our guys and the players we have coming in, Whitfield, Wilson, et al. For full disclosure, our WR's simply being "good," isn't solely their fault; a lot of it is Jimbo and the offense he runs and our substitution pattern. I don't think we will ever have a 1,000 yard receiver while John James is patrolling the sideline. Besides that, I think personally Dawsey is the weakest coach on the staff in term of "teaching" the game.
* I don't think Bracy ever plays football; if he does play, he doesn't play for more than a season or two. He will be trying to gear up for the 2016 games by 2015.
* I'm ambivalent towards Jimbo. In someways, I really like him. I love the infrastructure that he's put in place, the modernizing of the football program, the addition of sports psychologists, etc. But I really dislike his offensive and football philosophy in general. We don't have to emulate Alabama or anyone. We don't have to try to play like a SEC team. Let's embrace who we are, our culture, our tradition, how we play the game, and light the damn scoreboard up! Our program is in a state that produces the most elite high school skill players in the country! This horizontal, letting the defense dictate what you do offense is rubbish. Jimbo coaches and talks about football like it's played in a vacuum or isolation. "If we got a seal there on the edge, it's a touchdown, but instead a guy gets beats and it's a loss of three." That's any play that has been called in the existence of the game, besides special teams and specialty plays (kneel downs, spikes, etc.). And the crazy thing about football is that, you know, sometimes the defense makes plays, sometimes a defender does something you don't expect, he's not where you anticipated he would be. That's why it's counter-productive to try to have these long drawn out ball control ass offenses. The probability of you scoring will decrease the longer the drives goes on, your team will make a mistake, the defense will make a play, etc. Don't believe me? What kind of defensive philosophy did we employ last year? I believe they were second in the country as well. Moreover, Jimbo's philosophy has cost us games. Jimbo lost that NCST game last year. Jimbo lost that game against Virginia in Doak on Homecoming. This, "get up by 10 points, and act like we're up by 30 offense," is baffling. That's why Jimbo hasn't gotten his extension yet; he doesn't understand style points. He acts like football is fencing or some shyt and it's ungentlemanly like to keep advancing after a certain point.
*Furthermore, I mentioned recruiting. FL is absolutely screaming for one of the three powers to really get an dynamic offense. And once it happens, watch how recruits flock to said school.
*I really do like the addition of Sunseri. I can't evaluate and say if this staff is going to be better than the last. On some level, I don't think we can even really quantify how good either staff really is or was. Jimbo is "allegedly" such a domineering personality, I'm not sure it will matter who we bring in. But we will see.
*I expect big things from the defense this year. I'm not sure if they will have the numbers of last year, but I expect more turnovers produced and there's always a high correlation between turnovers produced and good teams/defenses.
* I'm not going to diss Mario, but I see dude around campus and, ummmmmm, he looks like a DT. And I don't mean that just because of his size. I hope he tightens up over the summer in a big way.
* Lastly, I don't like Warchant or Tomahawk nation, really. Lol. I respect TN for being free, and I have a Warchant subscription that I've had for years, but solely for the content at this point; however, big sites like unintentionally promote group-think, homerism, and lemmings. The posters start to take on the personality of the mods or editor, subconsciously. When TN was FSUncensored, the conversation was much more varied, but after awhile, everyone just became a shill for Bud. In reality, Warchant isn't that much different from TN, they're homer sites, but TN does it under the guise of advanced statistics and other inflammatory talking points. If someone tries to tell you that FSU had a great offense last year, they're being disingenuous and promoting an agenda. Like the homie Aristotle said, the degree of certainty and precision that can be sought in any study of any subject - depends on the nature of that particular subject. Advanced stats in football are meaningless, because football by nature can't allow for that type of certainty. You have to watch the games and come to some general conclusion. Did we have a good offense in my opinion last year? No. But they'll try to convince that Jimbo did a masterful job, and just EJ fukked up. I'm just using the offense as an example. A lot of people don't see it, but I do.
