Wow, I didn't know about how the show affected his relationships with his wife and sons.

If you think about it it'd be weird/amazing if he had a great relationship with his wife and kids. He was the Fly Jock because he was flying cross country daily to do his radio shows. A lot of times you can't really get both the top of your profession AND a good relationship with your family because you've gotta dedicate insane amounts of time to either, both is implausible.
