Even tho I agree with you but, I will say this has always been a staple of hip-hop from the beginning........so let's not act like jay created this mindset, hip-hop was built on "one upping" and being flashy.

this era was fukking laughable and clearly he wasn’t thinking these things up on his own.
You gotta wonder what the creative meetings for these album rollouts looks like when the whole crew gets together and some random CACs says “let’s shoot it in a museum. It will be amazing Jay. Just think: you, post modern pieces on the wall as you press your forehead upon that of a witch monster”

I really don't think the crew was involved in that meeting. Jay Z during this era reminds me of my cousin and a friend who went to this predominantly white church once. They came back telling me about their experience, which apparently blew their minds because they tried to convince me, my brother and their siblings to go. I passed on the offer and was like, "ya'll do you". That reminds of Jay trying to put everybody else onto these experiences. Yeah, it might've been mind blowing to him, but you see it and its like "I'll pass".
