The wrestlers today are better athletes, which we've seen across various of other sports, better athletes = quicker the pace is. But while the wrestlers have gotten healthier and more athletic, its meant that the little nuances of match pacing, timing, storytelling/psychology have been lost. And getting your shyt in, bouncing around like a pin ball and doing shyt for the sake of it with no reasoning to get a pop has over taken the old adage that less is more.
I agree, but nikkas gonna make excuses.ill be the first to say I’m not hip on new WWE too much. But I did watch mania. I’ve seen so many people on here say that the wrestling now is better than ever. Bull fukking shyt.
The Seth Rollins triple threat match is a perfect example of how today’s wrestling lacks psychology and storytelling. It was like putting a smack down video game on cpu vs cpu. Every move was just set up to be a counter for another move. No storytelling, no taunting, nothing. Way too fast paced. Just one spot into another. Just pure trash. I was hype for this match too. The Styles/Shinsuke match was this way too. As was the Orton match. Is it just me
That match really did change everything. The "big" WM matches are mostly methodical finisher spam-fests ever since that match. Both of those matches were boring then, and their clones are boring now. That's the name of the game now. A lot of guys have been trying to emulate that classic Undertaker and Shawn Michaels match from 9 years ago.
That’s what I’m saying. That’s what I grew up on. Even when wwe entertainment value was awful in the mid 00s, at least the matches were decent.Everybody tryna hit backflips & top rope moves so that's why it's only one style nowadays even tho history has shown the wwe has never truly prospered with this as the dominant style.
Been watching some of the attitude era ppvs & wrestlers was actually showing suspense.
The rock, Austin, hhh, Foley, etc were providing an extended story during matches & didn't have to spam dropkicks & knee kicks.
The future is now, old man.
Less is definitely more. Build to the big spots and make them feel earned. Part of what made Michaels matches great was that it looked like he was getting his ass beat and was pulling off the moves out of desperation and against much bigger wrestlers. From what I remember is matches against Bret Hart were more ground based which sense considering they were closer in size. Even though they weren't as athletic I still much prefer the older style were they were still trying to sell it as being real. The AJ match last night is more of what I want to see where they are at least selling consequences of big moves and slowing things down to make it feel more real.this..the spot monkey shyt absolutely kills me..its been very hard to get invested in some of the matches
