Today's hip-hop lacks that groove/funk from previous eras

A lot of channels on YouTube breaking down popular white music and how to play it. No brehs or brehettes on YouTube really doing the same for classic black music. Soooo can't be too mad

Agreed! Generally, today's Hip Hop is too synthesized & rigid for my taste. That Note Repeat, machine gun hi-hat gets on my nerve quick.

Prior eras were more influenced by earlier R&B & Jazz. Today's seems to be takin' cues from EDM.

You know
What makes you feel good about the future of r&b?
Maybe it's wishful thinking .I've just been impressed by a few new artist and songs this past year.
H.E.R. ,King, Daniel Ceaser, SZA, others......
I just wish male R&B singers would step it up more. Stop trying to be a rapper/singer with lazy ass talk singing. The ladies are really doing their thing though.

You can't mention funk w/o mentioning Larry Graham. He's on the bass & turned the original rock sounding track to a funk track

Kind of Funk that has you making this face :scust:
