Nevada Commission: Mayweather Unable To Change Glove Size

What Floyd Mayweather wants is not always what he gets.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has put the brakes on his plan to change the glove size for his upcoming showdown with UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

The two fighters are set to collide at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds - which under the Nevada rules would call for 10-ounce gloves.

McGregor claimed in several interviews that Mayweather intentionally wanted the junior middleweight limit, because 10-ounce gloves are used above the welterweight limit of 147. The MMA fighter is used to wearing 4-ounce gloves in the UFC.

Mayweather was under the impression that if both fighters were able to contractually sign off on a rule change, the Nevada Commission would allow it.

"Don't believe what you hear in the media. Don't believe what you hear on blog sites. If it's not coming directly from me, then it's not true. I'm telling McGregor, 'Let's fight in 8 oz gloves.' McGregor can fight in any brand he prefers or chooses. I'll be wearing 8 oz Grant gloves. Whatever advantage McGregor needs to feel more comfortable in the ring, I'm willing to accommodate. Let's give the boxing and MMA fans what they want to see," Mayweather stated.

What Mayweather believes is not the case.

According to Nevada Commission executive director Bob Bennett, they are not going to bend the rules for the Mayweather-McGregor contest - regardless if the two fighters agree in writing - and both athletes will be required to wear 10-ounce gloves.

"These regulations are in place for the health and safety of the athletes, which is of the utmost importance to the commission," Bennett told ESPN. "Our regulations already outline the appropriate glove size according to contracted weight of a fight."

Mayweather vs. McGregor takes place on August 26th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Showtime Pay-Per-View in the United States and Sky Sports Box Office in the UK will carry the fight.

Schaub bets ‘d-ck pic’ that Floyd-Conor goes 12 rounds

:huhldup::what:

The fukk is wrong with this retard? First he used dumb arguments over and over to try to discuss why he thinks McGregor gonna win :mjlol: then this...

This is the guy the UFC uses as an expert/hypeman to cover Mayweather vs McGergor. Congratulations for the choice, they forgot to get him a Tapout t-shirt and a can of Monster but I guess he's still catering to the target demographics. If there's no Mayweather vs McGergor I'd probably never heard about this dude :hhh:

McGregor knows Paulie isn't in shape and he made him go 12 :lolbron:

It was good work, hard work. I actually wasn’t too thrilled that they wanted me to go twelve rounds...I’m here to help, I’m here to do the best I can for you guys, so don’t try to take advantage of me. Don’t try to make like you’re running a two-time world champion out of your camp or whatnot...Honestly I questioned last night whether I could go twelve rounds and the first five rounds of back-and-forth action, I wasn’t really sure I could go the full twelve....Then as we got to round six, he started fading a little bit and that’s when I really tried to dig in there and that’s when I said you know what I’m going to stay in here, I got a point to make tonight. I managed to last until about 12, but in rounds 11 and 12 he came back and put it on me. I just totally gassed out in the eleventh and twelfth. So we returned the favors to each other last night..
