White on Mayweather-McGregor Tour: Staples, Barclays Sold Out
UFC President Dana White expects an absolute madhouse during the four-city media tour to promote next month's showdown between five division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
The two athletes are set to collide on August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Showtime Pay-Per-View will carry the event.
The tour will hit the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the SSE Arena at Wembley in London and also in Toronto, Canada. All four of the press conferences will be open to the public.
There is still no announcement regarding the price of the pay-per-view or the tickets, but fans have snatched up all of the press conference tickets by the thousands.
Because of the crazy ticket demand, the Toronto press conference was moved from the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts to the larger Budweiser Stage. According to White, tickets for the Barclays Center press conference is sold out, and the Staples Center press is sold out as well.
“Staples Center is sold out, and by sold out, I mean we did tickets and there’s no more seats left. Barclays [is] sold out. We had to get a bigger venue in Toronto, and we’re doing Wembley in England. It’s going to be crazy," White said.
"It’s going to be a f***ing sh*t show. You know that. Absolute sh*t show. So, I don’t know. It’s going to be crazy."
White will be present for the entire tour and plans to sit on the stage to tackle any incoming questions from the media and fans alike.
“I think it’s going to be a hybrid of the boxing press conferences and UFC press conferences,” White said. “I don’t know. I think it’s going to be more like a boxing press conference than it is our press conferences. You know how mine are. No bullsh*t. We walk in, and we sit down and, ‘What’s up? Who has the first question,’ and we get it rolling. I think there’s going to be a lot more bullsh*t in this one.
“I’m going to sit there with a mic, and when you ask me a question I will answer it. I’m not going to get up and give any speeches or do anything like that. I think Conor and I will come in, Conor and I will sit down, and we’ll answer questions when asked questions. I think that the rest of the people that are going to come in – I think there’s going to be a lot of people that come in and talk and have speeches.”
