Red Sky era was that shyt. They had been mainstream and successful as fukk but they still managed to take the cartoon in a darker and edgier directions.

They had to darken the tone. Batman: TAS changed the game for comic book animated shows back in the Fall of 1992.

Its like this, Batman TAS was like when Onyx hit the east coast scene in 93 or when NWA hit the scene in 88.....you either had to adapt to darker tones, or you got rolled over. TMNT animated had to become darker to survive by being more serious and have better animation than their previous seasons. Other shows refused to go that darker route, like Darkwing Duck, got cancelled abruptly.

It was fact that Batman TAS influenced the later seasons.

Random and unpopular opinion.

The Red Sky Ninja Turtles that came on during the mid late 90's before the OG turtle series got cancelled was lit. Especially the theme song. Red Sky era was underrated

Yeah, this era def had to be darker. The competition was just too strong for them to stay with the silly tone in the earlier seasons. 94 to 96 had all kinds of serious shows like Batman: TAS, X Men, Spiderman, Gargoyles, and even Superman TAS. They could have gotten away with it in the first 5 or 6 seasons, but the OG TMNT cartoon was on the air for so long, that even April O'Neil had to upgrade her wardrobe into 90s fashion.

Usagi Yojimbo is getting his own Netflix series!
