How rikers remain open after all the fukkery that goes down in that hellhole is beyond me. It's now a place to keep degenerates employed and out of the very same system they reinforce it would seem.

Or at least a serious overhaul. I volunteered for an educational outreach program at Rikers' women's facility the year the Browder story broke. All of the guards we talked to said it was a sad situation but wouldn't change a thing, and it really didn't. Thing is, the people in Rikers are so conditioned by their context and situation that they didn't even blink when they heard Browder's story because more than a few had been in there for months waiting for a hearing. It's so fukking depressing.

I've always been lucky in my younger years I never got caught doing all the dumb shyt, so I avoided rikers but I know more than a few people that went through what that young man went through. Some for nothing more than a summons or get this....Trespassing in their own building. The system is conducive to what is happening on rikers, no one wants to touch the "justice system" so things like this will continue to happen.
