I don't think it should go backwards... it should move ahead into other techniques/sounds... or at least improve on what's already been done. Something about a return to boom-bap beats makes me think people will be doing bad impressions of mid-90s East Coast rap, and it'll come off like more of a parody than anything else. That's kinda a special era... I don't really wanna see it fukked with.
Oh I can agree with that. I wouldn't want it to go backwards, and I def wouldn't want to see the new producers screw up the whole Boom-Bap thing either.
For one thing I hope that we can still get some dope sampling going on, seeing that IMO that was one of the defining characteristics of the hip-hop sound. Taking old shyt, and putting a bit of flava in it and creating something new. (Not saying that all dope rap beats were just samples or anything like that)
As for the non-sampling beats, I agree that we should have something new and dope, rather than more g-funk or something like that lol. (I love g-funk but just like you I wouldn't want new guys trying to go back to that and screw it up).
