Perhaps if they downsized the federal government (i.e.: get rid of the IRS, CIA, FBI, department of education, etc.) and reduced their spending this wouldn't happen. But unfortunately the idiotic socialists have too much power and the government will only get bigger and bigger. RIP America
I think the Repubs are in a scorched Earth frame of mind right now. They re already getting the bulk of the blame for all of this nonsense so to take the blame and walk away with nothing would be an untenable situation for them.Seems like Obama and Reid are backing the House GOP in a corner. A deal will happen at the 11th hour and if it fails in the House that's blood on their hands.

They have to come away with something of value that serves to strengthen the Party with their base or they might as well just forfeit the midterm elections.
Well it is a very stupid situation and has been from the jump.So scorch the earth and don't back down unless you get a concession or you lose the house, and if they let the United States default they definitely will lose the house. Hmmm it seems like a stupid situation only short sighted republicans would put themselves in. Pander to the extremist wing of your party brehs.

All this back and forth has been over a stop-gap solution anyway...they were basically fighting over a temp measure that would fund the government till December. The "Solution" being bandied about is just a temp solution that would have right back in the same position in December. These useless c*nts on both sides of the aisle have been doing nothing but putting forth temporary solutions for years.
Everyone is playing games for political points and with that being the reality I don't see the Repubs just taking the L on this without getting some type of concessions from Obama and The Dems. They are too far gone to walk away with nothing.
Top Republicans unveiled a plan that would suspend a new tax on medical devices for two years and take away the federal government's contributions to lawmakers' health care and top administration officials, in addition to funding the government through Jan. 15 and giving Treasury the ability to borrow normally through Feb. 7

"GOP's latest plan is designed to torpedo the bipartisan Sen solution," tweeted Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md. "Plan is not only reckless, it's tantamount to default."
Political pressure is building on Republicans to reopen the government and GOP leaders are clearly fearful of failing to act to avert a default on U.S. obligations.
Republicans are in a difficult spot, relinquishing many of their core demands as they take a beating in the polls. Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla., led GOP lawmakers in several verses of "Amazing Grace."
