I just finished the most difficult show I've ever watched in my life. Up to this point, 1 Litre of Tears was the most gut wrenching watch but this show, The House on the Slope, has presented a different type of hopelessness.
I've often used Rosemary's Baby as the centerfold for an introduction on gaslighting but, now there is a 6 episode series that's going to be the new standard. It's the story of a mother who drops her baby into a bathtub and kills her.
Now I've seen some wild introductions to shows, like a woman entering a house and strangling a baby, or a man living under the bed of a woman he had a crush on, but I couldn't keep my eyes open this time.
The show primarily revolves around the trial of this mother and that's where the integration of other characters and their relation to parenthood come in.
This is one of the most fantastic shows I've ever watched, it's not graphic despite what I said earlier, in fact, the directing choices are top notch with transitions I haven't seen before. It is a short series at 6 episodes but even then, 2 episodes in a day was my limit.
It wouldn't be an impactful show without it's connection to the larger issues at hand of societal expectations and the stigmas women face. There are so many layers here and it takes itself seriously the whole time. This is a must watch.
Another 10/10 show
