Because Joan Cleaver was a character on TV . My grandmother was a stay at home wife, she cooked cleaned, served her husband etc but was not expected to shut up, never complain, be done up everyday with the kids perfect by the time my granddaddy came home etc...especially with more than one kid. That's not real life sometimes you have bad days some times the kids were crazy. The woman in the OP is suppose to be a robot and cater to the man, be understanding with none of that in return.

Not bad. The least she could do if he is providing for her. When I say that, I mean if I wanted a new bag, I'd get it within a week. The rent is always paid and groceries are always in the fridge. If the man is doing his job, she better be doing hers.
