The media is turning this bullshyt into some kind of tyc00n version of the space race when it's really just a bunch of rich a$$holes with more money than they can spend using old NASA tech to do what NASAs been doing for 60 years.

Now a damned rocket plane getting to the boundary of space is being treated like some great event. FOH

Again, NASA was doing this shyt in the 50s, just because some billionaire gets handed the blueprints we're all supposed to pretend we forgot all that and praise the capitalist gods.

Heard a great quote in a movie last night that it's the sign you're in a fascist government when the media is trying to make you worship the wealthy.
People should be alarmed that billionaires are desperately trying to get off the planet... Just saying

But funny enough, thats kinda what this is about. Yeah the whole thing was a dikk waving contest, but the fact that a private company and not NASA was able to do this breaks down barriers for future investment and overall lowering the barrier of entry for regular citizens.
Would you pay 10 grand to go to space? I sure fukkin would. Optimizations in private spaceflight will allow for this.

This is literally never how it works. Privatization always ends up costing more than a Public owned spaces. It's why so called "Public-Private Partnerships" always end up being far more expensive than if they had just hired people to work directly for the government for the effort. It's a scam

No. Not in this case.
Yes, if we are talking infrastructure that was already public, rarely is it good for it to go private in terms of dollars out of customers hands.
But in budding industry, its usually govt stimulus plus private investment that gets economies of scale running. There is no public infrastructure to go to space unless you are a highly trained astronaut. Hell SpaceX is a major example, public shyt is often hamstrung by political bickering.

Yes because we fukking killed NASA's funding and privatized a ton of their stuff selling it off to private corporations like Space X :russ:

Public Private partnerships are never better monetarily for the general public. It takes our tax dollars to build a private corporations infrastructure at zero cost to them then charges us way above the level we should be increasing those costs yearly to use the very same infrastructure we fukking own. Prime example of this is the fukking ISP/cable companies.

going to space is expensive. It cost $60,000 per kg to launch the space shuttle.

It’s a big deal now because now it’s privatized. NASA is far behind because their budget has shrunk.

If you took 1/4 of the defense budget and put it into NASA, they would’ve lapped, Space X, and the other 2 big private companies years ago.

Breh again why are you talking like these billionaires surpassed NASA? Let me repeat, these companies are using NASA hardware, blueprints, and probably government money to subsidize their space race. NASA is working on putting people long term back on the Moon in 3 years and people are acting like getting into low earth orbit on retired Space Shuttle engines is winning.

People just keep repeating "but it's privatized" like "but it's got electrolytes and stuff" like somehow that's a magic wand that makes everything better

breh, space x is doing it at a fraction of the cost. NASA never perfected reusable rockets and even future projects doesn’t include it which is a big reason why it’s so expensive.

When it comes to government funded programs, there’s more red tape and bureaucracy and bullshyt. Not to mention politics. One president will have an objective that will get scrapped by the next administration. Zero consistency.

the only reason why NASA work in the first space race is because there was a unified objective.

You got current military projects that have been delayed for years and gone billions over budget. Imagine what’s it’s like with NASA right now.

1. It's easy to reduce costs when some one else has done the R&D for you
2. NASA was landing rockets 30 years ago. And the Space Shuttle was 2 reusable SRBs plus a whole reusable orbiter. The only thing that wasn't recycled was the giant orange tank.
