Privatized space flight is not something that's been done before. It is kind of a big deal...

Other than that, I haven't seen much worshipping. More like people wishing they would die in space and not come back, which is pretty lame to me.

shyt that blows my mind is they'll do a story about record high temperatures and global warming, then cut straight to gushing all over billionaires charging millions for random people to fly rocket planes into space for personal ego.

Like they don't even begin to see how gassing up conspicuous consumption contributes to all the global problems we're facing.

I get where you're coming from, but I also understand the prospects of space based economies and infrastructure. It's gonna take the private sector to push forward. Gov'ts have other concerns.

Heard a great quote in a movie last night that it's the sign you're in a fascist government when the media is trying to make you worship the wealthy.

then this country has been this way for a looooong effin time :(

Yeah, but space travel is expensive as hell and still VERY dangerous. I promise you there's no way the private sector does space flight better than NASA can without cutting corners. There's a great youtube video from some astronauts wife talking about all the every day shyt that has to happen on the ground to keep that space station going.that doesn't get much coverage.

Again, this isn't privatized space flight. This is good old socialism-created space technology GIVEN AT LITTLE TO NO COST to the private sector to basically copy. Amazon is even using old Space Shuttle engines. And there's no way Elon Musk is going to make a profit sending people to Mars. *Maybe* Virgin Galactic has a shot sending people to high altitude (I don't even think it officially qualifies as space), but even at a cheaper prices how many people are willing to spend $250K for that?

Before Sunrise, artsy flick with Ethan Hawke from around 94

Yeah I know that...:pachaha: but like i said compared to Astronauts this isnt a big achievement for mankind...:heh:

It might be cuz with the way things are going, humans might need to leave earth and find another planet, or the moon, to settle on. :francis:

NASA sending someone to outer space is not a big achievement cuz they done it before plenty of times, but some random motherfukker with no previous experience in the field? :ohhh:

Obviously its limited to the wealthy right now cuz none of us are gonna take that initial risk or even have the funds to create a company that can do something like this. None of us are able to hire aerospace engineers, construction crews, or whatever else is needed to build a damn rocket to take us to outer space, and test everything first. May not be a big achievement now but who knows what impact it may have in the future.

That list looks to be pretty small...
A lot of people have been to space. And numerous non astronauts have been to space.

The initial assertion, which you challenged, stated that we shouldn't be giving these guys flowers for doing something that been done repeatedly in the past.

You can move the the goalposts though :mjlol:

I bet they can find plenty. I don’t think that’s a large issue here and I still think its pretty significant for some circles. For the average person, meh.

Becoming incensed over it happening like some are in this thread isn’t going to do much.

Nah. Original point stands. Only government has been doing this, not private companies. Which is obviously the point I was making.
