He wasted a lot of beats on himself for a spell
There was a time he was dropping albums back to back that nobody cared for
Around the time he relocated to Mississippi or something
The only albums i can think of that Daz fans had a noticeable dislike for hes not really producing on.

Gonna guess this is due to Regulate.

If this song was Dove Shack, its after Warren G signed with Def Jam and Russell/Lyor swaggerjacked the DeathRow sound, and capitalized off their wave.

Despite Suge's threats, Warren G signed to Def Jam, his breakout single Regulate appeared on his debut album after it was a single for (Deathrow released) Above the Rim, and Warren put out other acts on Def Jam.

That's what I figured as well but on a couple of the early B1 lives Reggie made it seem like it had to be more than just that, like he (Reggie) admitted that's the main reason he was shifty to Warren was being mad at himself that he had the chance to sign him, didn't and Warren blew the fukk up.

I imagine its probably multiple things all compounded, Russell probably sonned him in the early days or something. I know he allowed Death Row to willingly participate in the The Show film and concert and theres unreleased The Show related stuff in the Vanhalla warehouse listed in the inventory archives but he blocked having any of DR main artists from appearing on the Sndtrk, I'm sure Suge didn't like the response to that being Def Jam listing Snoop and Dre as appearing on the Sndtrk in print ads when it was just audio clips from the film (I was pissed about that after buying the sndtrk expecting songs from them, albums still piff tho)

Suges petty to the point he let it affect the money when it came to Def Jam too, like when they were trying to sell Snoop the biggest offer on the table was Interscope and Priority going 50/50 on him for 7 mil and while fielding other offers Lyor offered 8 mil and Suge said naw I need 13 mil from Def Jam. He let an extra mil just float away because of his Def Jam hate lol.

Dre proved to be a bytch in that situation too and this is what caused Snoop to fall out with Dre again after the proposed Make Ups To Break Ups album and why Dre had to get LL to replace Snoop on Zoom, when Dre found out Suge was gonna get 7 mil for an artist I guess he felt he helped create and Suge was basically bytching him again by first making him relinquish his 50 percent stake in Snoop (and the whole company) and then selling Snoop and again he wont eat off it, but yeah, Dre went crying to Jimmy and because of that interscope pulled out of the deal, and Jimmy was also too much of a bytch to say it to DR directly Bryan Turner had to deliver the news, and while we're on the topic, Master P never went to see Suge in prison like he said, hes never even met Suge, again, Bryan Turner went directly to see Suge in prison and that's how the No Limit deal got done.

At the end of the day respect (and being petty) meant more to Suge than money, and ultimately his freedom, but yeah, the fact Lyor met with Reggie in a car and wouldn't go see Suge directly pissed off Suge and Bryan turner always staying true to his word in all their business dealings since Dogg Food made Suge literally take millions less than all the other offers from multiple labels and do the deal with Priortity. One of my favorite Suge quotes is from that prison meeting "and tell that country mutha fukka I want $100,000 for that Snoop verse cause I know yawl already put it out" in reference to Snoops appearance on Mystikals 1st NL album which Snoop was already paid $35,000 directly after assuring them he was no longer contractually obligated to Death Row lol.

Snoop really was wyling that year in between wanting off Death Row and signing to No Limit, a couple albums worth of unsanctioned features, leaked a couple albums worth of Death Row material and recorded and leaked an albums worth of Death Row diss songs and then actually had an album manufactured and bootlegged of Death Row songs, he was crashing out when his monthly allowance stopped lol.

Great post

That's crazy bro I never knew daz made this beat, this was one of my favorites from the album
Same, the album is great front to back but we got robbed not having the Def Jam sophomore album from Dove Shack where Warren would have had more beats on it than the 1st album which he was pretty minimally involved in.

Above the fray.
@KingSol81
Thanks

Russ and Lyor were music industry vets by that time, and Suge was no match for thrm in terms of legal tricks of the trade.

Also, years earlier Russ had to negotiate with Mike Concepcion to take the bounty off of 3rd Base's lives after Hammer paid to put a greenlight on them in L. A. So, Def Jam had at least a working relationship with high ranking Crips by that time. Suge's tough talk and threats could only go so far.
Dude used to bullying/intimidating record industry folks was embarrassed by not being able to do that to Def Jam.

One of my all time favorite Daz beats but most people don't know he's the producer behind it. While theres effects put on his vocals to make him not so easily identified that is indeed Daz saying "we funk g-funk" throughout the song. Produced under the pseudonym Young Jedi as Suge wasn't clearing anything for Def Jam due to a still unknown hatred for Russell Simmons, even Reggie said he doesn't know the real origins of Suge hating Russel but that he despised him as much as he did Puff. But yeah Daz in my top 5 for sure.

I didn’t know Daz did that :ohhh:
